Conte: Small Chelsea squad struggling to cope

Conte: Small Chelsea squad struggling to cope Antonio Conte is ready to unleash Alvaro Morata in Chelsea's Champions League clash against Roma tomorrow night, but has warned his squad is struggling to cope with a busy fixture list.

Morata missed Chelsea's shock 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday, while N'Golo Kante, Victor Moses and Danny Drinkwater have all been ruled for Roma's visit to Stamford Bridge due to injuries.

Conte, whose side benefited from having no European duties to contend with last season as they romped to the Premier League title, said many of his squad are not used to the increased demands being placed upon them this campaign.

*Read more:* Chelsea may not be competitive in the Champions League this season, warns Conte

"When there are injuries of this type it's very difficult," said the Italian, referring to hamstring issues that have plagued Morata, Kante and Moses.

"The problem is that the same players are always playing. We have players that are not used to playing three [games] in a row. For Kante and Moses, it's the first time. For Morata, it's the first time regularly.

"When you have a lot of games you need to protect players. If this isn't possible I have to take a risk."

Chelsea are currently top of their group having won their opening two games against Qarabag and Atletico Madrid, while Roma sit one place behind them with a win and a draw against the same opponents.

Conte, who has been linked with the manager's role in the past, reserved plenty of praise for the club and in particular captain Daniele De Rossi who he worked with while in charge of Italy.

"Roma is a top team," said Conte. "I was extremely proud to have seen my name there. A great team, great players, a great city.

"I have a great appreciation for De Rossi and I get goosebumps from the great journey we had in the national team." Reported by City A.M. 1 hour ago.

Rolls-Royce Makes Its Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog Debut with a Duo of Dawns

Rolls-Royce Makes Its Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog Debut with a Duo of Dawns -

There may be no greater symbol of the commercialization of the holidays than the annual Christmas Book from Neiman Marcus, which contains, among other things, a collection of particularly extravagant items that are too rare—or too big—to be sold at Neiman’s retail stores. In the past, such Fantasy Gifts have included a Boeing Business Jet, a submarine, a 25-carat Nam diamond, a walk-on role on a Broadway show, even a live Black Angus bull, with accompanying barbecue.

-

And, of course, every year in recent memory, the catalog has featured at least one limited-production automobile, usually pimped out especially for Neiman Marcus, including seven 2008 Hennessey Venom “700NM” Viper, 100 custom 2015 Ford Mustang GT convertibles with 700-hp supercharged Coyote V8s, and 10 of the first Aston Martin Vanquish Volantes to appear in the United States for the 2014 model year. And for 2017, for the first time ever, a Rolls-Royce—or to be accurate, two Rolls-Royces—will be featured in the Fantasy Gift section, sold individually or proffered as pair of Yours & Mine 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn drophead coupes.

-

-

With custom fitments rendered by Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke division as directed by the fashion experts at Neiman Marcus, each of the two Dawns that will appear in this posh holiday catalog was inspired by a posh holiday destination. The Coniston Blue “Lago di Como” Dawn is named after northern Italy’s lovely Lake Como, only being a Rolls, it uses the lake’s far sexier-sounding Italian name. Inside, Selby Grey and black leather covers nearly every surface that’s not brushed metal, glass, or a button, and while its distinct paucity of wood trim is unusual for a Rolls, that’s somewhat justifiable for something named after a lake. The orange “Saint-Tropez Dawn” features an interior awash in light Seashell, Mandarin, and Dark Spice leather with Canadel open-pore wood veneers. Both models feature contrasting silver “bonnets” and silver folding fabric tops.

· Rolls-Royce Dawn Gets Its Black Badge of Darkness

· Meaty Beaty Big and Spendy: Music Legends Customize Rolls-Royce Wraiths
-

-

While the Bespoke division’s modifications made to this duo of Dawns are mostly cosmetic, Fantasy Gift pricing still applies, with each Yours & Mine Dawn costing roughly a hundred grand more than the 2017 Dawn’s $343,875 base price. The Lago di Como Dawn is priced at $442,375 while the Saint-Tropez Dawn will set customers back $448,500. Rolls-Royce says that the cars may be further tailored by the customer once their orders are taken, but to do so would surely eat into what little change might be coming to them from their million-dollar bill with still so many other fantasy gifts one might indulge in, such as an $8000 doll house, a $35,000 helicopter tour and photo expedition over Malibu Beach with famed shooter Gray Malin. The more philanthropically inclined may prefer to make the $50,000 outlay for the construction of two water wells in communities in need, with the specific location to be determined by the buyer, preferably one with the good sense not to visit whilst at the helm of his or her new convertible Rolls-Royce.

Cécile Collina-Hue, Chairman of the Management Board, stated: "After posting healthy results in the first half of the year, HighCo announces further organic growth for the third quarter, in line with our expectations, driven mainly by the strong performance of In-Store digital businesses in France. With this level of business activity and our sound cost control, we have confirmed our 2017 guidance for growth in gross profit and profitability."

*GROWTH IN DIGITAL BUSINESSES*

*With an increase in like-for-like growth of 1.7% in Q3 2017* , digital businesses remained on their growth trend, enabling the Group to post slight organic growth. The share of digital in total Group business continued to rise, up from 45.9% in Q3 2016 to 46.6% in Q3 2017. With a like-for-like drop of 1.2%, offline businesses continued to decline. As a result, despite the very high standard of comparison (like-for-like growth of 11.4% in Q3 2016), *the Group posted slight business growth for Q3 2017,* *up 0.2% on a reported basis and 0.2% like for like to €19.16 M* .

*Over the first nine months of the year, digital businesses rose 4.8% on a like-for-like basis* , and their share in total Group business increased from 45.6% at the end of September 2016 to 47.1% at the end of September 2017. The rate of growth in Digital came in lower than initially expected, especially for fully digital Drive to Store businesses. Meanwhile, offline businesses declined 1% like for like over the same period. *This resulted in Group gross profit of €61.44 M for the first nine months of 2017, up 1.7% on a reported basis and 1.6% like for like* .

*FRANCE: SLIGHT GROWTH IN Q3*

*Up 0.4% like for like, France turned in gross profit of €13.64 M in Q3 2017* , representing 71.2% of the Group's gross profit. This growth was mainly driven by the continuous development of In-Store digital businesses. As such, the Group's French businesses held up well despite the decline in paper coupon clearing and certain Drive to Store mobile business.

*For the first nine months of 2017, gross profit totalled €43.62 M in France, climbing 4.9% like for like.* Over the same period, digital businesses grew 3.7% like for like, and their share in gross profit reached 53.9%.

*INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS: LESS SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN Q3*

*International gross profit slipped 0.4% like for like to €5.52 M in Q3 2017* , i.e. 28.8% of the Group's gross profit. *In Benelux, gross profit fell 0.7% like for like in Q3 2017, coming to €5.34 M.* This decline was less significant in Q3 than in Q1 (down 12.2%) and Q2 (down 3.6%). Digital businesses showed double-digit growth in Benelux over the quarter, which offset the drop in the volume of paper coupons cleared and the decline in offline in-store media.

*For the first nine months of 2017, international gross profit totalled €17.82 M, down 5.4% like for like.* Benelux declined 5.8% like for like, still accounting for 27.7% of the Group's gross profit. With a good performance in Q3 2017, business in Southern Europe (Spain and Italy) has held up well, posting like-for-like growth of 3.1% since the beginning of the year. The region accounts for 1.3% of the Group's gross profit.

*2017 GUIDANCE CONFIRMED*

Given the performance reported for the third quarter, the Group has confirmed its revised guidance for 2017 announced in July:

· Growth in 2017 gross profit of more than 1% like for like (2016 gross profit: €81.11 M like for like; up 11.8% based on historical like-for-like data);
· Increase in adjusted headline PBIT ^3 between 4% and 6% (adjusted 2016 headline PBIT: €14.10 M);
· Rise in adjusted operating margin ^3 equal to or greater than 50 bp (adjusted 2016 operating margin: 17.4%).

Kidnapped priest in Nigeria released, doing well

0

Benin City, Nigeria, Oct 18, 2017 / 10:54 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Fr. Maurizio Pallù, an Italian missionary who was kidnapped in southern Nigeria last week, was freed Tuesday.

He was freed late in the evening of Oct. 17, according to authorities, and is doing well.

“The devil is cowardly, he wants to make us afraid but he has chosen the wrong way because we are poor men, that have fear, but are sustained by the grace of God,” Fr. Pallù told Vatican Radio Oct. 18.

Noting that it was actually the second time he’s been kidnapped in Nigeria, Pallù said that it was more difficult this time, but he saw “the miracles that the Lord did, just great miracles that the Lord did to keep us alive.”

“It means that the Lord has a big plan in this country because the devil is attacking with great force to destroy the work of God in this nation.”

Pallù, 63, is a member of the Neocatechumenal Way. He has served as a missionary in Nigeria for three years. He and two companions were kidnapped Oct. 12 by armed men near Benin City.

According to Vatican Insider, the kidnapping was carried out by a group of criminals who robbed the priest and others while they were travelling from Calabar to Benin City by car.

Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano told Radio Capital Wednesday that Pallù had been freed and is doing well. “We await him in Italy soon,” he said according to Italian news agency ANSA.

They had the intercession of the saints and of the Blessed Virgin Mary over these last few days, Pallù said, pointing out that both times he’s been kidnapped, it has been on the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.

The first took place Oct. 13, 2016. He was released after only an hour and a half.

This time, he was taken captive on the eve of Oct. 13 and kept in the woods along with a Nigerian student and brother for five days.

According to Vatican Insider, Pallù had called his mother on Sunday night to tell her he was well and would be released soon. Pallù's mother, Laura Pallù, made the phone call public during a prayer vigil for her son's release in parish of Santa Lucia La Sala in northern Florence.

The priest said he has been asked to return to Italy for the time being, though he would like to stay in Nigeria if he can.

The devil “is keeping millions of people slaves here with lies, cowardice and corruption,” he said, “and when they allow me to return I will return here very happy and offer my poor person for the evangelization of Nigeria.”

Fr. Pallù is a native of Florence. As a member of the Neocatechumenal Way, he was a lay missionary for 11 years in various countries. In 1998, he entered the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Rome.

After serving as a chaplain in two parishes in Rome, he was sent to Holland, where he was a pastor in the Diocese of Haarlem. From there, he was sent to the Archdiocese of Abuja.

Several other priests have recently been kidnapped from the Nigerian state of Edo, where Benin City is located, and one has been killed. Reported by CNA 33 minutes ago.
