SMARTER COOKING BROUGHT TO THE SMART HOME BY ELECTROLUX AND VARIGUARD USING RESEARCH FRONTIERS SPD-SMART LIGHT-CONTROL TECHNOLOGY

This week at 2018 EuroCucina in Milan, Italy, Electrolux premiers the SenseOven 2.0 concept oven using SPD-SmartGlass.

Milan, Italy, April 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cooking just got smarter and easier thanks to Electrolux and variable tint SPD-SmartGlass supplied by Research Frontiers’ VariGuard division. Electrolux, a global leader in appliances is premiering its "SenseOven 2.0" concept this week at 2018 EuroCucina, Europe’s largest kitchen trade show being held in Milan. The SenseOven 2.0 embeds VariGuard’s SPD-SmartGlass interactive intelligence into the appliance – an electronically dimmable glass which uses Research Frontiers’ patented SPD-Smart light-control film technology.

Electrolux is showing how SPD-SmartGlass makes cooking more interactive, more precise and easier.  It also has aesthetic benefits and a sleek modern design.

When the cook is at the oven, the SPD-SmartGlass can be switched to extremely transparent, offering an excellent view of the food and reducing the need to open the door. At all other times, the glass can be extremely dark – blocking over 99.5% of light – completely concealing the oven’s interior and delivering a sleek black appearance as an interior design element.

The ability of the SPD-SmartGlass to switch different zones from clear to dark provides an opportunity for an industry-first oven feature. Recipes specify which oven rack to use, and the rack used can change during cooking. The zone of the SmartGlass in front of the rack to be used can switch from dark to clear – but the other zones can remain dark. If the rack is to be changed during cooking, the zone in front of the new rack can switch clear and the others switch dark. These visual cues to the chef can be provided automatically – the SmartGlass can receive data from the oven's timer, and when appropriate the cue can visually alert the cook on actions to take. In another example of visual cues that can be added, the SmartGlass could communicate with the oven’s temperature monitor and can “flash” – switching repeatedly from clear to black, when the pre-heat temperature has been reached. The SPD-SmartGlass could also communicate interactively with smart device cooking apps for added precision and functionality.

Electrolux has embedded new intelligence into the SenseOven 2.0 concept by its integration of VariGuard’s SPD- SmartGlass. The appearance of the SenseOven 2.0 exterior is electronically adjustable – instantly switching between optically transparent and a sleek solid black. At 2018 EuroCucina, visitors will experience the SPD-SmartGlass changing states between transparent and black via a demonstration program. In kitchens, VariGuard SmartGlass can be controlled manually by the user, via apps on their smart devices, or automatically with the use of motion or proximity sensors. If desired, the system’s intelligence also allows for integration and communication with other oven electronics (for example timers or thermostats), and even with smart home systems.

As an added feature, the SPD-SmartGlass in door of the oven has been designed with three different “zones” of the glass that are independently controllable between clear and dark – increasing the interactive options and benefits.

VariGuard’s SPD-SmartGlass provides optimal solutions to a longstanding dilemma that oven manufacturers have confronted: Oven manufacturers typically need to select a level of tint on the glass that is a compromise between being clear enough to see the oven’s contents while cooking to concealing the oven’s interior and contents to create a sleek design statement.

VariGuard SmartGlass is capable of switching not only from clear to black, but also any level of tint in between, offering opportunities for additional creative interactive features. For example, with the use of a proximity sensor, the tint of the glass can automatically adjust according to how close the cook is to the oven – for an interactive transition.

Electrolux sells more than 40 million products to customers in 150 countries per year. The SPD-Smart light-control film technology featured in Electrolux’s SenseOven 2.0 is also used in sunroofs on many models of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, in windows on over 40 models of aircraft, in yachts, and in art industry picture frames and display cases. It was also experienced by over 6 million people at Expo Milano as part of a 10 thousand square foot SPD-SmartGlass roof for the USA Pavilion. The design, engineering and fabrication of Electrolux’s SenseOven 2.0 concept oven was accomplished by close collaboration among VariGuard SmartGlass (a division of Research Frontiers and the supplier to Electrolux), Vision Systems (a licensee of Research Frontiers), and Electrolux.

Global opera star returns to America with recital concert dates announced for New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Connecticut; follows on lauded performance in Tosca

NEW YORK, April 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Q: Who is Mark Steven Doss?  Is he… John the Baptist or Méphistophélès? Performing spirituals or Baroque Oratorio? From West Point or the seminary? Preaching from a pulpit or inspiring audiences from the stages of the world’s most prestigious opera houses? The right voice or the wrong voice?  The right ethnic background or the wrong one?

Embodying these dualities during his lifetime, Mr. Doss has successfully woven the contrasts together into a celebrated operatic career spanning three decades. Performing nearly 100 stage roles to date with 60-plus major opera companies worldwide, his talents have taken the North American bass baritone from New York City Opera and Chicago Lyric to La Scala and London’s Covent Garden. Now local audiences will have the opportunity to hear the international opera star’s powerful voice in a special series of performances.

Grammy Award winner, former Metropolitan Opera Finalist Winner, 1st Prize Winner of the International Verdi Competition and recipient of the National Institute for Music Theatre’s George London Opera Prize, opera star Mark S. Doss returns to New York City to perform a solo recital at the Baruch Performing Arts Center on May 16, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Doss will be joined for the performance by Russian pianist, Artist of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, and winner of the 2016 New York Concert Artists Worldwide Debut Audition, Vyacheslav Gryaznov. Both are artists-in-residence at The Drozdoff Society.

“Mr. Doss found a compelling ministry when he answered the call to sing; I have not often found such a perfect marriage of voice, bearing, acting of the highest order, intelligence, humility, musicianship, integrity, and generosity of spirit in one performer,” said Natasha Cherny, Founder of The Drozdoff Society.

Part of The Drozdoff Society’s Impromptu! Classical Music Recital Series, Mr. Doss’ program will include both classical and contemporary repertoire, encompassing five languages and genres and several musical epochs. The New York performance is in the first leg of Mr. Doss’ four-state solo recital series with the society from May 13th through to 22nd, with engagements in New Haven, CT, Stamford, CT, Baltimore, MD, and Red Bank, NJ (additional details are provided below).

*Recent acclaim for Scarpia performance in Tosca*

Celebrated by critics and audiences for his signature performances as Méphistophélès in Faust, Amonasro in Aida, and the title roles in Verdi’s Macbeth and The Flying Dutchman, Mr. Doss has received universal praise for his recent portrayal as the villainous Baron Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca with the Welsh National Opera (WNO) this past winter-spring. Of note:

“As for Scarpia, American Mark S Doss was quite brilliant in the role - which is undoubtedly one of the greatest in opera. A strong punchy baritone, he chewed up the stage with an elegant but menacing flamboyance - at times fastidious, at times revelling in his forthcoming conquest - not to mention a suitably louche silk morning coat. He was overall the best Scarpia I have seen performed live, mixing beauty with brutality.”
– Will Frampton, Bournemouth Daily Echo, Friday, March 23, 2018

“Mark S Doss, however, is spot-on as Scarpia, avarice and evil wrapped up in swagger, menace and dangerous charm.”
– Rebecca Franks, The Times of London, February 13, 2018

"Mark S Doss’s Scarpia achieves more by means of a dark solid core to his tone and a manner that combines some of the suavity and sadism required for this iconic operatic villain."
– George Hall, The Stage, February 13, 2018

*Media and industry recognition*

In recent years, Mr. Doss’ performances and storied career have earned him significant media attention. TV appearances include ABC, NBC, FOX, KPBS, CBC Television, CBC News Toronto, Rogers, and OMNI, as well as an array of print and radio interviews (The Chicago Sun-Times, The National Post, The Toronto Star, NPR-KUSC Los Angeles, WUSF Tampa, and Radio Canada International, amongst others).

Mr. Doss is also a recipient of the prestigious Entertainment Award from Planet Africa, recognizing his achievements both as an artist and for being a positive role model for youth, both in Canada and the United States. Appreciative of his tremendous success, Mr. Doss always finds time to share with the communities in which he lives and works, presenting master classes and teaching apprentice artists. He also donates his time and talents to fundraising concerts for churches and opera companies.

*Recital dates, locations*

Mr. Doss performs at the Baruch Performing Arts Center on May 16, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. ET, in the Rosalyn and Irwin Engelman Recital Hall, 55 Lexington Avenue, New York City. Tickets are available at the box office, online or by calling 212-352-3101.

Introducing NATEDE, The IOT-Ready Natural Air Purifier That Combines Technology and Design with The Power of Plants to Remove Pollutants and Toxins from Indoor Air

The second product from positive-social-impact company Clairy, NATEDE launches on Kickstarter on April 17, 2018.

MILAN and SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) April 17, 2018

Today, Clairy introduced their latest technological advancement in air purification: NATEDE. NATEDE launches on Kickstarter, where the company introduced their first product, the award winning Clairy, two years ago to much fanfare and success. The name NATEDE comes from Clairy's unique and proprietary product concept trilogy: NAture, TEchnology and DEsign.

Clairy's corporate mission is to empower people to clean and purify the air in their homes, offices, schools and public buildings. The air inside can be up to 5 times more polluted than the air outside, stated the World Health Organization and contaminants come not only from the often polluted air outside, but also from cleaning products, carpeting, paint, furniture, smoke, dust, cooking and more. As we spend on average 90% of our lives indoors, it is critical that we address the multitude of negative effects air pollution can cause: allergies, asthma, poor sleep, skin irritation, coughs, runny noses, itchy eyes and more long-term, harmful impacts on our health and well being.

Like Clairy’s first product, NATEDE is not just a beautiful air purifier, but also a plant holder, designed and crafted in Italy and available in sustainable biomaterial or ceramic, the latter for its premium version.

NATEDE is a beautiful accessory for any home, and its simple design is deceptive: it features the most advanced sensors and has a new photocatalytic filter, which does not need to be replaced, therefore eliminating waste and the extra expenses. Thanks to the combination of the plant with photocatylisis, the product is now able to eliminate 93% of Vocs, 99% of bacteria, virus and fine particulate.

Clairy CEO Paolo Ganis said, “The core technology of NATEDE is phytoremediation, which means that it uses the natural power of common plants to clean toxins in the air. This was studied by NASA in the ’80 and implemented by us with almost 3 years of research at PNAT and LINV, two of the most important laboratories on plants neurobiology in the world. Plants placed in NATEDE metabolize a significantly higher amount of pollutants compared to plants potted in regular vases, because of the combination of design and embedded technology, and NATEDE’s air flow system quickly and quietly cleans air from a plant’s soil.”

Clairy has gone through a complete redesign with upgraded features for this new product. The monitors and sensors inside of NATEDE can accurately read the temperature and humidity of a room, as well as detect VOCs, PM2.5, and CO. The new LED interface communicates air quality levels without the use of the Clairy application, but the Clairy app allows users to monitor air pollutants and control the air flow in their space in real time. NATEDE can even connect to other smart home devices, such as Amazon’s Alexa, and provides users with health tips.

Along with NATEDE’s upgraded features, NATEDE’s updated design offers a more modern shape and sleek look with cleaner lines and a wooden base that’s made of all-natural materials that are 100% recyclable and environmentally friendly. NATEDE also features a self-watering system, hence it helps to further reduce water consumption other than keeping plants alive while we are on the move or on holidays, even long ones. Its water tank can bring water to plants for about a month.

The NATEDE empowers families, companies and school administrators to take control of their indoor environment, and to make the air clean, safe and healthy. The NATEDE can provide quick and substantial benefits for the health and comfort of
families, pets, schoolchildren and employees.

NATEDE is available for preordering starting at €133 ($164) on Kickstarter. To learn more about the campaign, visit pr.go2.fund/natede.

Film by Mujah Maraini-Melehi Spotlights Italian Experience in Japanese Prison Camp during WWII, Features Work of Basil Twist and Ryuichi Sakamoto

NEW YORK, April 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Acclaimed documentary, “Haiku on a Plum Tree,” will make its New York City premiere Thursday night as part of the Stranger Than Fiction weekly film series hosted by Thom Powers and Raphaela Neihausen. Taking place at the IFC Center, the event will also feature a question and answer session with the film’s director Mujah Maraini-Melehi and renowned puppeteer Basil Twist.Maraini-Melehi shared, “My documentary is personal – a small production with a big story that speaks to everyone. Personal stories are important because they help us connect to the past beyond history books – and this is one story that isn’t even in the books.”

“Haiku on a Plum Tree” tells the story of Maraini-Melehi’s grandparents during the Second World War and the impact of their experience on the family and subsequent generations. After leaving their native Italy for a new life in Japan, Florentine anthropologist-photographer Fosco Maraini and Sicilian painter Princess Topazia Alliata refused to pledge allegiance to Mussolini’s Republic of Salò. As a result, Fosco, Topazia and their three daughters, Dacia, Yuki and Toni, were placed on house arrest and ultimately interned in a Japanese prison camp. The family survived in the camp for two years, with Topazia keeping a diary for as long as she had paper and pencil.

Inspired by her family’s experience, Maraini-Melehi teamed up with screenwriter Deborah Belford de Furia to create the film. Blending family history and documentary with the dogugaeshi puppetry of Rome Prize-winner Basil Twist and music from Oscar-winner Ryuichi Sakamoto, the film takes the audience on a journey back to Japan. Using the diary, photos and testimony from her mother, aunt and 100-year-old grandmother, Maraini-Melehi considers her family’s decisions along the way and the lasting legacy of their experience.

Maraini-Melehi continued, “Little is known about the prison camps in Japan where my Italian family was interned during WWII. My grandmother’s diary is the only known document that tells us how things were from the inside. The resulting film is a journey of love, hardship, loss and eventually reconciliation and healing, a universal story that still resonates in our current political climate.”

This will be the film’s first screening in New York City and is expected to draw interest from the film, theater and international communities. For event information and tickets, visit: http://www.ifccenter.com/films/haiku-on-a-plum-tree.

*About Mujah Maraini-Melehi *
Daughter of Italian writer Toni Maraini and renowned Moroccan painter Mohamed Melehi, Mujah Maraini-Melehi was born in Casablanca and brought up in both Italy and Morocco. At 17, she moved to New York City where she lived for many years. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, she studied acting at the Actors Studio and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. After the death of her husband, Broadway actor Daniel McDonald, Mujah moved back to Rome with their two children, Fosco and Ondina. “Haiku on a Plum Tree” is her first film.

*About Haiku on a Plum Tree *
A documentary feature, “Haiku on a Plum Tree,” is part historical document and part visual memoir. Directed by Mujah Maraini-Melehi, the film considers the experience of her grandparents, who after leaving Italy for a new life in Japan were interned in a civilian prison camp for refusing to pledge allegiance to Mussolini’s Republic of Salò. Using diaries, photos and the testimony of her mother, aunt and elderly grandmother, Maraini-Melehi explores her family’s legacy and brings their memories to life on her own trip to Japan.

Helping to bridge the journey between past and present, “Haiku on a Plum Tree” features the work of acclaimed puppeteer Basil Twist and original music from award-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. For more, visit: https://www.facebook.com/haikuonaplumtree.

'Pope's choir' to go on first-ever US national tour

Vatican City, Apr 17, 2018 / 12:32 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican’s Sistine Chapel Choir, known as ‘the pope’s choir,’ will head to the United States this summer for an eight-city concert tour.

This is the choir’s first nation-wide tour and will include stops in Atlanta, New York City, St. Louis, Detroit, Miami, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles from July 3-July 23.

The national tour follows less than a year after the choir’s first U.S. performance in three decades, which took place last September, with the choir performing at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C., New York, and Detroit.

Known officially as the Cappella Musicale Pontificia Sistina, the choir is comprised of 20 professional singers from around the world, as well as a treble section made up of 35 boys aged 9-13, called the Pueri Cantores.

With a 1,500-year history, the Sistine Chapel Choir is believed to be the oldest active choir in the world.

Mark Spyropoulos, a choir member from the United Kingdom, told EWTN that in his opinion, the purpose of the tour “is to bring to America the spiritual intensity of the Sistine Chapel, the transcendent beauty which is at the heart of the Vatican.”

“We are bringing to you some of the finest music from the Vatican and from the archives that go back to the sixteenth century,” he said. “We bring the music which reflects those famous and beautiful frescoes of Michelangelo.”

The choir’s director, Fr. Massimo Palombella, said in a statement that the Sistine Chapel Choir “is delighted and honored to embark on our historic first U.S. national tour.”

“We are excited to experience the many great cities we will visit and look forward to sharing our cutting-edge research and study of Renaissance music, directly from the archives of the Sistine Chapel, preserved in the Vatican Library, to audiences across America.”

After attending Italy’s prestigious conservatory and spending years as a theology and music teacher, Palombella became the director at the Pontifical Music Chapel and began conducting the choir in 2010.

Palombella studied philosophy and theology at the Salesian Pontifical University and trained under organ players Luigi Molfino and Bishop Valentino Miserachs Grau. He also attended the Conservatory of Turin.

Ordained a priest of the Salesian order in 1995, he began teaching dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Salesian University and the Language of Music at Sapienza University of Rome. He then succeeded Father Giuseppe Liberto as director of the Sistine Chapel Choir.

GBK and Art Naturals Present the Influencer and Celebrity Gifting Lounge at the Miramonte Resort during the first weekend of the Coachella Music Festival on Saturday, April 14th. Attendees included Chantel Zales (Social Media Influencer), Kylie Rae (Social Media Influencer), Mark Dohner (Social Media Influencer), The Regretts (Coachella Performing Artist), Kellan Lutz (“Twilight”), Korr_a (Social Media Influencer), Alexandria Fitzpatrick (“Alli Fitz”, Artist), Nikki Leigh (Social Media Influencer), Ajiona Alexus (“13 Reasons Why”), Ser’Darius Blain (“Charmed”), Daniel Skye (Social Media Influencer), Corinne Olympios (“The Bachelor”) and many more.

Indian Wells, CA April 14th, 2018, April 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- *GBK Productions* and *Art Naturals* produced the first *GBK Influencer and Celebrity Gifting Lounge* for Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival attendees at the *Miramonte Resort in Indian Wells*. Guests were invited to join in the festivities and pool party at the Miramonte Resort, while being gifted festival apparel and accessories, pool floats for the weekend parties, vacations around the world, and private dinners by a Michelin Star Chef.

Festival-goers entered the lounge through exploding bubbles by *Bubble Works*, that flew through the air creating magical pictures in front of the hand-painted flower and pineapple press wall by LA-based artist and muralist, *Cloe Hakakian*. *Art Naturals* then offered a welcomed refreshing spritz of their Rose Hydrosol Spray to help with the heat, and gifted their state-of-the-art electric cool mist aromatherapy Bluetooth Diffuser with eight pure and therapeutic grade essential oils. Along with their beloved diffusers, Art Naturals is known for their health-conscious beauty and body care line specializing in essential oils, natural based hair care, serums, masks, scrubs and other eco-friendly, BPA-free and cruelty-free products, which made it a favorite stop for the stars to keep their mind, body and spirit nourished.

As we all know, Coachella is as much about the fashion as it is about the music. *Zenni Optical *introduced a choice of multiple styles from their 2018 Festival Sunglass Collection, along with a Coachella survival kit including the brand-new eyewear chains with colorful tassels to complete any look. *Seriously Fab *added to that survival kit with their Zinc It Over Sunscreen Facial Mist, designed for use over makeup, which makes it the ideal Festival SPF. Checking the time for the next set got a whole lot better with the iconic *Daniel Wellington* watches gifted to the crowd, and *Maebane Wear* supplied contemporary hats, swimwear, and the essential bandanas for the weekend.

Continuing with festival must-haves, influencers and celebrities picked up a *Stratos* bottle, which keeps your favorite drinks cold for 24-hours or hot for 12-hours, making any camping experience on-site even better. When you leave the campsite however, you still need a way to transport your wine, right?  The *PortoVino® Wine Purse* has a secret insulated compartment that allows you to carry and pour up to two bottles of wine (or 1.5Liters of your favorite beverage). And if you want to feel even better about drinking your wine in the PortoVino bag, know that through their relationship with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), for every purse sold, PortoVino® donates a meal to FMSC to help end world hunger. Seriously, this is one time you can actually feel good about drinking two bottles of wine by yourself.

GBK would never let their guests walk away with a wine bag without any wine, because that would be, well, just rude. *Ammunition Wines* was there to save the day with their wine flight tastings and generous bottle gifting, customized to everyone’s liking. And *MADD Diva Concierge* treated everyone to refreshing Passion Fruit and Very Berry Sangria as she told them all about how she can cater to their every whim and will through her all-in-one-stop-shop concierge service based in LA.

Colored wristbands may be the typical way to get access into parties all over the valley, but the GBK and Art Naturals lounge was the only place you could get a 3D photo I.D. badge and lanyard from *3DCheeze* to capture the vibe and essence of the weekend. And for when they get home, 3DCheeze gave the guests $600 vouchers for our fun interactive 3D photo booth services for their next party. Talent also swooped up 3D customized photo luggage tags for the trip home and future travel.

Needing to put those luggage tags to use right away, *La Corte Dell'Astore* wanted to bring the party to Italy. La Corte dell’Astore is formed by eight ancient buildings dated back to a millenary tradition. La Corte dell’Astore has suites equipped with whirlpool tub and Turkish bath designed for the guests who want to enjoy a pause of well-being surrounded by natural vapors in pools carved in the rock. Professional masseurs will help the Coachella guests of honor to relax with various massage techniques, and the team “Vola Con Noi” will organize a personalized paragliding experience with hawks and bald eagles. La Corte Dell’Astore gifted every guest in attendance this three-night stay experience, worth more than 10k. For those who would like to bring Italy into their home, *Il Palato Italiano *gifted an unprecedented culinary experience for up to 15 guests, by the amazing Executive Chef Filippo Sinisgalli and his kitchen Brigade. And to experience a return to the desert for a more low-key weekend, the *Miramonte Indian Wells Resort & Spa* is bringing the VIP’s back for a two-night stay in their beautifully renovated property offering three gorgeous pools, an award-winning spa, and world class golf.

We all know is not a Coachella pool party without a show-stopping float, so who better to deck out the poolside festivities than the creator of the Original Giant Swan Float?! That’s right, *Swimline*, the company responsible for the epic selfie explosion of floaties, brought their latest and greatest air-filled eye candy to Weekend One. Guests chose from pizza slices, flamingos, rosé bottles, Blood Mary’s and seashell floaties to relax on before the Beyoncé #beychella began.

Before leaving the lounge*, Youngblood Skin Care* offered full makeup application by their expert makeup artists, keeping the talent looking fresh for their next stop on the Coachella train. Youngblood created a lip gloss especially for this weekend, and the gold glittering “CHELLA” looked smashing on every set of lips. The Youngblood team hooked the celebs up with a customized bag of goodies to fit the YB aesthetic best described by the phrase ‘Effortless California Style’, including their exclusive Cali Festival Kit. And for the much-needed pep to prep for the Eminem show happening Day Three, *Lofty* *Coffee* threw a bag of their Sweet Blue Blend in, which will make heavenly cups of cold brews for the dog-tired desert dwellers.

Although Beyoncé herself was unable to make the lounge on Saturday, she was delivered a bag from GBK including all the goods. Influencers and celebrities were “Crazy in Love” with the idea of breaking up the stream of traditional parties to be gifted and enjoyed the opportunity to be introduced to the hottest upcoming brands and quality festival finds.  This was the first to what seems like will be many for GBK Festival Gifting, with RSVP’s already rolling in for next year’s attendance.
