Rise of more transformative wellness travel spans everything from extreme wellness approaches like biohacking and brain optimization retreats to empowering all-women wellness adventures – Key Middle East/North African developments include a surge in hot springs development and the first truly holistic wellness resorts and “healthy hotels” hitting region

MIAMI (PRWEB) April 23, 2018

Today at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai, the Global Wellness Institute presented its second annual symposium, “The Wellness Showcase: Wellness Experiences & Travel Trends 2018.” The focus was on the macro shift from experiential to more “transformative” wellness travel, and how travelers now seek (and destinations are innovating) more emotional, life changing wellness journeys rather than the old programming, treatments and classes. GWI chairman and CEO Susie Ellis shared emerging trends that fall under the transformative umbrella: from brands creating multi-property wellness circuits or story-based wellness sagas to the rise of more extreme wellness at destinations (whether intense mind-over-matter challenges or empowering wellness travel for women).

The GWI also provided a sneak peek of key developments unfolding in the MENA wellness tourism market in advance of the “2018 Global Wellness Tourism Economy Monitor” being released in November at World Travel Market (WTM) in London, including the first truly comprehensive wellness resorts hitting the region and a hot springs development rush from Algeria to Saudi Arabia.

To bring wellness approaches to life, the symposium became an experiential theater, with doctors, experts and master practitioners from Dubai Herbal & Treatment Center, Hilton Worldwide, International SOS, Jumeirah Resorts, Sofitel the Palm, State of One, The Retreat Palm Dubai and WTS International demonstrating. On display were ayurvedic approaches, “smart” wellness screening and skin analyses, acupuncture, herbal medicine, tai chi, kung fu, color and aromatherapy, sound/vibrational therapies like Tibetan singing bowls, gongs and laughter yoga. Leaders from Dubai’s Health Authority and the Caribbean Tourism Organization shared strategies for attracting the wellness tourist, and innovative properties like Switzerland’s new Burgenstock Resort shared impressive photography of their hotels and resorts.

“The buzzword in travel today is ‘transformative,’ and while it can never be precisely defined and often gets misused, for the wellness travel sector it’s the very brand and promise,” noted Susie Ellis. “Wellness travelers increasingly demand true brain, body and soul shake-ups–intense personal growth rather than just pampering–and destinations are creatively heeding the call.”

I) Aspects of the Transformative Wellness Travel Trend from the ATM Symposium

Destinations creating immersive, story-based, epic wellness journeys

The trend: moving beyond the piecemeal (and sometimes un-engaging) approach of classes, treatments and itineraries to a necklace of integrated wellness experiences that cast the traveler-pilgrim in an emotional, multi-chapter wellness journey or theatrical saga of transformation. Example: Six Senses building the first multi-property wellness circuits from a hospitality brand, like Six Senses Bhutan (opening 2018), where people journey across five lodges, immersed in five pillars of Bhutan’s “Gross National Happiness Index.”

More performance, music & art mixed with wellness

To spark the brain and emotion, more art, performance, music and literature is being served up with wellness. Examples: at China’s stunning new Amanyangun resort the vision is equal parts culture and wellness, where calligraphy, painting and Kunqu Opera performances take place in the ancient scholars’ studio. At the now-being-redesigned Peninsula Hot Springs (AU) people will be able to watch concerts, plays and talks while floating in a vast hot springs amphitheater.

From generic to genetic: hyper-personalized wellness based on your DNA and biomarkers

Thanks to a wave of ever-better DNA, personal biomarker, intestinal microbiome and epigenetic testing (targeting genes that can be turned on or off with lifestyle changes), more medical-wellness destinations are deploying new deep-view testing to create specific-only-to-you health, diet, fitness and even skincare roadmaps. This transformative information can be acted on at home via telemedicine. Example: California’s famed Cal-a-Vie spa uses the new, super-comprehensive Wellness FX platform that tests cardiovascular, metabolic, hormonal and nutritional health, then combines that knowledge with consultations and online habit tracking, to create a precision wellness plan based on each person’s biology.

Brain hacks and optimization

If wellness destinations have long focused on physical fitness, the coming surge is brain health and optimization – whether serving up eatable and drink-able brain-boosting nootropics or using cutting-edge brain neuromodulation technologies to create that better, less stressed, more focused brain. Example: Spain’s SHA Wellness Clinic just launched a Brain Photo Modulation program (using transcranial stimulation technology) to improve guests’ cognitive function and memory and reduce anxiety and depression.

Extreme mind-over-matter training

Transformative travel is about conquering challenges, even scary ones, and a key trend is wellness travel that goes far beyond lazing on a beach or gently practicing yoga. Wellness warriors are seeking everything from survivor-style fitness challenges to training at the elite athlete level to extreme mind-over-matter workshops to achieve things they never thought possible. Examples: BodyHoliday in St. Lucia’s WellFit retreats where you train with Olympians and NFL champions or “Ice Man” Wim Hof’s destination retreats where the fearless learn a meditation and breathwork program to brave extreme ice and master their immune and autonomic nervous systems. (Extreme ice/cold experiences are generally hot.)

Happiness travel

There’s a new science of happiness, like the annual World Happiness Report, that analyzes which nations are the happiest and why. And this new body of happiness research provides key lessons for wellness travel: drive more social connection (loneliness is unhealthy) and more tech disconnection (smartphones have created a depression and anxiety epidemic). With an unhappiness epidemic, suddenly no WiFi wellness destinations focused on contemplation, community and deep nature are the most sought after. More happiness (or joy-for-joy’s sake) programming will rise: from eating for happiness, with menus packed with serotonin-boasting foods; more “happy fitness,” or exercise that returns us to childlike play. More governments (from Bhutan to the UAE to Costa Rica) are putting citizen’s happiness at the heart of government policy and they will realize that a happy country is a strong tourism brand – as there’s insatiable consumer interest in the unique wellness philosophies of the happiest nations: from the Danish concept of “hygge” (coziness and contentment) to Sweden’s “lagom” (a life lived in moderation) to Japan’s “ikigai” (finding true purpose in life).

Empowering all-women wellness travel

In this fourth wave of feminism, more destinations and tour companies are focusing on all-women adventures and retreats that are part women’s empowerment and part wellness. There’s a boom in more challenging all-women’s adventure travel, from companies like AdventureWomen, WHOA, Intrepid and Exodus. More “painmoons”: emotional healing retreats for women who have suffered loss or grief, like Borgo Ignazia’s (Italy) Tarant Program. Bold new concepts like Finland’s SuperShe Island, a membership-based remote island destination where only women roam, immersed in meditation, yoga, sauna, farm-to-table cooking…and female bonding. Mainstream hotels like W are programming around gender equality, with “What She Said” events that mix empowering female speakers with fitness/wellness.

II) Key Developments in MENA Wellness Travel & Spa Markets

The Global Wellness Institute also presented important new wellness travel and spa developments across MENA, prior to the release of their new wellness tourism research at WTM.

GWI Senior Researchers, Katherine Johnston and Ophelia Yeung, reported on big picture reasons why MENA wellness tourism – a $8.3 billion annual market as of 2015 - will be a growth story.

Why MENA wellness tourism is growing

Johnston and Yeung noted that the MENA region (especially Gulf nations) is suffering a chronic disease epidemic, with some of the world’s fastest growth rates for obesity, heart disease, diabetes and depression. This makes preventative wellness an imperative and something more governments will support and people will seek.

Inbound travel is also growing fast overall: from 64.7 mil. arrivals in 2007 to 128 mil. in 2022, with receipts projected to skyrocket from $55.9 mil. to $1 billion in the same period. This is much faster inbound tourism growth than the global average.*

Travelers from many top MENA inbound markets embrace wellness as a lifestyle (the UK, France, U.S. and Germany are all top-12 source markets); more primary wellness travelers will flow into the region.

While MENA’s wellness travel market has traditionally revolved around uber-luxury spas/hotels, now hospitality development is shifting towards far more comprehensive wellness in ways never seen before: a holistic blend of physical, mental and spiritual offerings.

Key MENA Developments

A Hot Springs Development Rush

Countries like Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Iran all have extensive natural thermal/mineral springs resources but haven’t had the hospitality/tourism infrastructure to support them. That’s changing fast. For instance, Tunisia is building 54 new thermal/wellness centers by 2020 and Algeria is investing $100 mil. to modernize eight government-owned hot springs centers and 40 hammams. Countries without established hot springs markets are taking action: Saudi Arabia is planning extensive development around the Jizan Dam hot springs, while developing the Jizan coastal region as a wellness tourism destination. Egypt is redeveloping (and seeking investment for new wellness resorts) in regions famed for natural therapies/resources: the black sands of the Safaga/Red Sea region, sand baths and hot springs in the Siwa Oasis, and sulfur springs in Helwan. Even Iraq recently reopened its historic Hammam al-Alil hot springs facility that received thousands of visitors prior to the war.

Spa & Medical-Wellness Projects Boom in the Gulf Region

The Gulf region hasn’t been known for strong wellness offerings, but investment and growth in the region’s tourism infrastructure is changing this picture. One factor: the explosive growth in the hotel industry overall, with Colliers reporting that fifty new five-star hotel spas will open between 2017-2021 in Dubai alone. Countries like Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are all investing in big resort spa developments. Billions are being invested in massive medical-wellness projects that interweave green building, fitness amenities, world-class medical and complementary wellness services, targeting both residents and tourists. Examples: Dubai Healthcare City/WorldCare Wellness Village; Dilmunia Island project, Bahrain; Kuwait Silk City project; Qatar Foundation Stadium and Health & Wellness Precinct/Education City project. And international spa brands/chains are rushing into the UAE’s day spa market, leading to greater competition and more price points.

First Destination Wellness Resorts Are Hitting Middle East

The Middle East is now developing the very first properties catering to primary wellness travelers: true holistic, multidimensional wellness and spa destinations. Examples: The Retreat Palm Dubai (MGallery by Sofitel) opened in 2017 and the deeply integrative Zalal Wellness Destination Retreat now under construction in Qatar, which will be the first destination to revolve around Islamic culture and wellness traditions, with approaches based upon Hakim Ibn Sina’s (Avicenna’s) Islamic Golden Age philosophies of health.

First “Healthy Hotels” Hit Region

The first “healthy hotel” concepts - a mostly Western phenom that brings mainstream, more affordable wellness to leisure and business travelers - are now opening in the region. The Al Shaqab healthy/active lifestyle concept hotel opened in Qatar’s Education City and in Dubai, Smartotels is launching its FORM Hotel concept this year, focused on wellbeing, lifestyle, and technology-driven and socially-responsible design – offering everything from private yoga sessions to sustainable, healthy food.

Visit ATM’s Wellness Lounge: ATM offers a dedicated Wellness & Spa Lounge with Chenot Palace Health Wellness Hotel, NG Sapanca Wellness & Convention, Santani Wellness Resort & Spa, The Begnas Lake Resort, L'Albereta Relais & Chateaux, Soukya International Holistic Health Centre, Aitken Spence Hotels, Heritance Ayurveda and Velaa Private Island Maldives as exhibitors. It’s open Tuesday, April 24th from 10am - 6pm and Wednesday, April 25th from 10am - 5pm. On Tuesday at 4:30pm, ATM will host an educational session to learn more about the eye-opening wellness travel sector and meet the exhibitors.

*Geneva, Switzerland and Boston, MA - 23 April 2018** - *ObsEva SA (Nasdaq: OBSV), a Swiss biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel therapeutics for serious conditions that compromise a woman's reproductive health and pregnancy, today announced it will make presentations at the 4th Congress of the Society of Endometriosis and Uterine Disorders (SEUD) taking place April 26 - 28, 2018 in Florence (Italy). These presentations will include clinical data on the PK/PD profile of OBE2109 as well as a drug-drug interaction study:

· Pharmacokinetic Interactions of Midazolam with OBE2109, A Novel Oral GnRH Receptor Antagonist (posters session, beginning at 19:00 on Thursday, April 26th).
OBE2109 at doses up to 200mg neither induced nor inhibited drug-metabolizing enzyme CYP3A4, and therefore is not expected to impact efficacy or safety of co-administered add-back hormone replacement therapy (ABT).· GnRH Receptor Antagonist KLH-2109 (OBE2109) dose-dependent E2 suppression in Japanese and Caucasian women  (Free Communication session 3, beginning at 15:30 on Friday, April 27th).
KLH-2109 (OBE2109) at doses up to 400mg/d is safe, with favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics and controlled suppression of LH and estradiol.· Pharmacodynamics of GnRH Receptor Antagonist OBE2109 Alone or Together With Add-Back Therapy (Free Communication session 13, beginning at 18:30 on Friday, April 27th).
Results provide support for the selection of the ABT dosage in ongoing phase 3 clinical trials.

"We are pleased to inform the medical community on the development of our orally available and potent GnRH receptor antagonist OBE2109 (KLH-2109). Low pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic variability may allow estradiol to be managed to effectively treat symptoms of endometriosis and uterine fibroids while minimizing hypoestrogenic side effects. We believe these results support our treatment strategy to offer flexible dosing alternatives to achieve either partial or full estrogen suppression in individual patients thus providing potential therapies both with and without hormonal add-back therapy." said Jean-Pierre Gotteland, CSO and Head of R&D at ObsEva.

*About Uterine Fibroids*

Uterine fibroids are common non-cancerous tumors that grow within the muscular wall of the uterus. They can vary in size and number and when symptomatic, are most often accompanied by heavy menstrual bleeding, anemia, abdominal pressure and pain, bloating, increased urinary frequency and reproductive dysfunction. Uterine fibroids are associated with an increased risk of pregnancy complications such as infertility, miscarriage, placental abruption and early onset of labor. According to a study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2003, uterine fibroids affect an estimated 20 to 40 percent of women over the age of 30 in the United States based on clinical cases and women who undergo treatment.

For the millions of women with symptomatic uterine fibroids seeking treatment options, selection is driven by symptom severity, the woman's age, and her desire to have children now or in the future. While medical, surgical and minimally invasive treatments are available, the standard of care for symptomatic uterine fibroids is a hysterectomy or, in women who wish to preserve their fertility, surgical removal of the fibroid(s).

*About Endometriosis*

Endometriosis is a disease in which the endometrium (tissue lining the inside of the uterus) grows outside of the uterus, where it induces a chronic inflammatory reaction in the abdomen that may result in scar tissue. It is primarily found on the pelvic peritoneum, on the ovaries, in the rectovaginal septum, on the bladder and in the bowels. The most common symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain, which often correlates to the menstrual cycle. Patients may also experience painful ovulation, pain during or after sexual intercourse, heavy bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, fatigue and infertility. For many, endometriosis pain can be so severe and debilitating that it impacts do day-to-day activities and has a negative effect on general physical, mental and social well-being.

Endometriosis treatments aim first to alleviate pain, then to remove or decrease the size and number of endometrial lesions, and possibly improve fertility. Oral contraceptives, progestins and NSAIDs are generally first-line treatments for women experiencing pain. Following the failure of first-line therapies, current treatment options are limited to intra-muscular or subcutaneous GnRH agonist injections, GnRH agonists nasal spray pumps or surgery (including hysterectomy) for the most symptomatic cases.

The World Endometriosis Research Foundation's EndoCost study estimated the aggregate annual cost of endometriosis to be approximately $80 billion in the United States and approximately $60 billion in Germany, the UK, France and Italy in 2012 based on current exchange rates.

*About OBE2109*

OBE2109 is a novel, orally administered GnRH receptor antagonist with a potentially best-in-class profile in late-stage clinical development for the treatment of pain associated with endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding associated with uterine fibroids. OBE2109 acts by binding to and blocking the GnRH receptor in the pituitary gland, ultimately reducing estrogen production by the ovaries. Through previously reported results from this class of drugs and sophisticated pharmacological modelling, it has been established that maintaining estradiol within a specific target range provides the optimal balance between reducing symptoms while mitigating bone density loss associated with excessive estradiol suppression. ObsEva licensed OBE2109 from Kissei in late 2015 and retains worldwide commercial rights, excluding Asia, for OBE2109.

OBE2109 is currently in Phase 2b clinical trial for the treatment of pain associated with endometriosis (EM) and in Phase 3 clinical trials for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) associated with uterine fibroids (UF) in pre-menopausal women.

*About Kissei*

Kissei is a Japanese pharmaceutical company with approximately 70 years of history, specialized in the field of urology, kidney - dialysis and Unmet Medical Needs. Silodosin is a Kissei product for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia which is sold worldwide through its licensees. KLH-2109/OBE2109 is a new chemical entity discovered by Kissei R&D.

European Regulators Concerned Apple's Proposed Shazam Acquisition Could Hurt Competitors Like Spotify

The European Commission today announced it has opened an in-depth investigation into Apple's proposed acquisition of Shazam.
The regulators are concerned that the merger could reduce choice for users of streaming music services in Europe. In particular, they believe that Apple could gain access to sensitive data that could allow Apple to directly target its competitors' customers and encourage them to switch to Apple Music.

While the European Commission did not name any specific services, Apple Music's biggest rival in Europe is Spotify, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Other competitors include Deezer, Tidal, and Google Play Music.

European Commission competition chief Margrethe Vestager:

The way people listen to music has changed significantly in recent years, with more and more Europeans using music streaming services. Our investigation aims to ensure that music fans will continue to enjoy attractive music streaming offers and won't face less choice as a result of this proposed merger.

In addition, the European Commission said it will investigate whether Apple Music's competitors would be harmed if Apple were to discontinue referrals from the Shazam app to them following the acquisition. Shazam's app currently integrates with multiple services, including Spotify and Deezer.

The regulators have set a September 4, 2018 deadline to reach a decision, delaying an Apple-Shazam merger for at least 90 days.

Apple announced its plans to acquire Shazam in December, describing the two companies as a "natural fit" with "exciting plans" ahead. In February, the European Commission received requests from Austria, France, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Spain, and Sweden to assess the deal under European merger law.

Shazam is a popular service that can identify the name and lyrics of songs, music videos, TV shows, and more. It has apps across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, iMessage, and Mac, while the service has been built into Siri since iOS 8.Tags: European Commission, Shazam

Italy grants Alfie Evans citizenship in hopes of transfer to Rome

$

London, England, Apr 23, 2018 / 10:38 am (CNA/EWTN News).- On Monday a hospitalized British child at the center of a heated legal battle was granted Italian citizenship, part of an effort to delay shutting off his life-support, and to transfer him to a Roman hospital for additional treatment and medical evaluation.

Two-year-old Alfie Evans suffers from an unidentified degenerative neurological condition and has been under continuous hospitalization since December 2016.

On Monday the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) refused to intervene in what has been a highly sensitive and complicated case, paving the way for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where Evans has been receiving care, to shut off the infant's life support.

After receiving the ruling from the ECHR Monday morning, the hospital scheduled Evans to be taken off life support later that day. However, according to Italian daily Avvenire, the official newspaper of the Italian bishops, Evans' parents, Tom Evans and Kate James, were able to receive a last minute delay in order to clarify an aspect of the sentence.

Crowds of protesters lined the streets in front of the hospital Monday as they waited for the ruling, while Tom sent intermittent Facebook live posts from inside the hospital.

According to the BBC, some 200 protesters attempted to storm the hospital at one point, but were stopped by police, and backed off to the opposite side of the road.

In the meantime, Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano and Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti granted citizenship to Evans, in hopes that being an Italian citizen will allow the infant to be transferred to Italy immediately.

The decision comes less than one week after Alfie's father, Tom, came to the Vatican to make a personal appeal to Pope Francis on his son's behalf. In a private audience with the pope before his Wednesday general audience April 18, Tom Evans plead for asylum in Italy for his family, so that Alfie can be moved to the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome to receive treatment.

Pope Francis has made several appeals for Alfie, asking in his April 15 Regina Coeli address for people to pray for Alfie and others “who live, at times for a long period, in a serious state of illness, medically assisted for their basic needs.”

The pope also recently tweeted about Alfie, saying it was his “sincere hope that everything necessary may be done in order to continue compassionately accompanying little Alfie Evans, and that the deep suffering of his parents may be heard.”

Debate surrounding the case flared up when in February the court ruled that Alder Hey Children's Hospital could legally stop treatment for Alfie against his parent’s wishes. The hospital has argued that continuing treatment is not in his best interest.

Despite Tom and Kate's desire to take their son to Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome, several judges ruled in the hospital's favor. The case has since drawn international attention.

Canada Bound: For the First Time Six Canadian Trade Monopolies Met Italian Producers at Vinitaly

Canada is the sixth biggest wine importer in the world and 14% of its wine imports come from Italy. During Vinitaly 2018, the seminar “Destination Canada: Opportunities for Italian Wine. A meet-up with the Canadian trade monopolies” illustrated current trends and the interests of the Canadian market in Italian wine.

(PRWEB) April 23, 2018

Canada is the sixth biggest wine importer in the world and 14% of its wine imports come from Italy. During Vinitaly 2018, the seminar “Destination Canada: Opportunities for Italian Wine. A meet-up with the Canadian trade monopolies” illustrated current trends and the interests of the Canadian market in Italian wine.

Canada extends more than 7,821 km, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Despite its harsh winters, Canada has made a name for itself in the wine industry. In Canada numerous microclimates produced by mountain ranges and bodies of water provided some of the world’s best areas for growing grapes. The most recognised areas for producing wines in Canada are the Niagara Peninsula in Southern Ontario and the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. Canadians love their wines, yet they mostly prefer foreign brands. In 2017, Canadians drank 467 millions litres of wine, marking a 1.2% growth from the previous year. Of these 467 millions, 30% was locally produced, 14% was imported from Italy and 13% from the US.

Canada is one of the major consumers of imported wines. Research conducted by Euromonitor International stated that, in the next 5 years, wine sales in Canada will register a 2.9% growth in volume and a 3.8% growth in value. While sparkling wines will register the higher growth, white wines sales will continue to grow faster than red wines’. Even if in the last few years Canadians started to approach producers from other markets such as Chile and New Zealand, Italy and France are still the Canada’s favorite. In 2017, Italy exported 80 millions litres of wine to Canada (+9% from the previous year). Italy is the first supplier for volume and second only to France for value.

The relationship between Canada and Italy was the focus of the seminar “Destination Canada: Opportunities for Italian Wine. A meet-up with the Canadian trade monopolies” organized by Vinitaly International and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE). Managing Director of Vinitaly International Stevie Kim and ITA-ICE representatives Anna Flavia Pascarelli and Matteo Picariello welcomed delegates from 6 Canadian Liquor Boards on their very first trip to Vinitaly in Verona on on Monday April 16th. The Canadian delegation visited the exhibition and met Italian producers. Moreover, during the meeting at wine2digital, speakers introduced new programs for the promotion and purchase of Italian wines that are part of the new ITA-ICE support campaign for the wine sector.

In Canada the sale of alcoholic beverages is controlled by the Liquor Control Boards. These provincial boards manage every aspect related to import, distribution, and retail. These alcohol monopolies are completely independent, with their procedures varying from one province to the other. Each of the Canadian provinces has its own liquor board. Anna Flavia Pascarelli, Manager for the Food Department at ITA-ICE, explained the usefulness of the seminar: “It was the perfect occasion for representatives of the Liquor Boards to present current market trends as well as the interest that Canadian provinces have in made-in-Italy products.”

On the opportunities for Italian wines in Canada, George Soleas from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) commented: “Italian wines in Ontario are doing great, the market is surely opening up. We are now issuing 450 licenses to stores that will be able to sell more Italian wines. Overall, Italian wines and Italian suppliers are doing very well in Ontario and we are very happy to have them as part of the selection of wines that we have at the LCBO. At LCBO we import wines and spirits from 84 different countries and Italy is right at the top.” Moreover, on the trends of Italian wine in Canada, Barbara Philip (MW) from the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch (BCLDB), added, “I think there are many trends but at the forefront are classic wines and indigenous white grape varieties. On top of knowing the trends, to export to Canada it is important for a producers to have an agent importer who really understands the market. Sometimes that means having 2 or 3 agents within Canada.”

On the importance of this first-time gathering Stevie Kim also comments: “This seminar would have been a dream session for wine2wine, the wine business forum which gathers professionals at the end of the year when producers have more time on their hands. During Vinitaly producers are busier selling their wines and rightly so. However, we did not want them to miss out on this exceptional opportunity, since it was the very first time that the delegation traveled to Vinitaly. So we live-streamed the event and made their slides available online. I would like to thank the Canadian delegates for allowing us to share their helpful presentations.” “Destination Canada: Opportunities for Italian Wine” was a unique opportunity for Italy, one of the major wine producers, and Canada, one of the major wine consumers, to meet, discuss, and improve their commercial relationship.

The Ellwood Closed Die Group launches a new marine product line for Seakeeper

HOUSTON (PRWEB) April 23, 2018

The Ellwood Closed Die Group launches a new marine product line for Seakeeper. The product line includes several finish machined flywheels that are assembled into the gyro stabilizers, which per Seakeeper cuts down “95% of all boat roll, the rocking motion that causes sea sickness, anxiety and fatigue”.

From start to finish, Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota (ETFN) utilizes the entire Ellwood Group supply chain to manufacture the flywheels. Raw material melted at Ellwood Quality Steel (EQS) and procured from Ellwood City Forge (ECF) is heated and forged on various pieces of equipment within the ETFN facility to produce the near net shaped forgings. The variety of hammer and press die forging equipment present within ETFN allows flexibility to manufacture the products using the most cost effective methods available. After heat treatment and processing, the forging is then rough machined, non-destructively tested for part quality and finish machined to extremely tight tolerances. The Seakeeper product line is the next step that ECDG is taking toward providing complete turnkey solutions to their customers, while joining a new customer, who is the leader in boat stabilization technology.

About Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota and the Ellwood Closed Die Group

Ellwood Texas Forge Navasota is one of two closed die forging companies owned by the Ellwood Group Inc., headquartered in Ellwood City, PA. Located in southeast Texas along with its’ sister company, Ellwood Texas Forge (Houston), the facilities comprise the Ellwood Closed Die Group. At the center of ECDG’s forging capabilities are a 16,000 ton screw press, a computer controlled 80 meter-ton counter blow hammer and a computer controlled 11,000 ton multi-ram hydraulic press. These core pieces of equipment are supported by conventional hammers, smaller hydraulic presses and mechanical presses to forge near net closed die forgings out of carbon, alloy, stainless, nickel and titanium. Each forge facility also has in- house die sinking, cutting, heat treatment, testing and machining capabilities. Both forging facilities possess AS9100C, ISO9001:2008 and Nadcap certifications. Primary markets served include, Aerospace, Construction, Defense, General Industrial, Marine, Mining, Oil & Gas and Power Generation.

Ellwood Group Inc. is a privately held growth oriented company with ten separate business units. All of its business units are non-union and have a strong focus on safety, quality and reliability.

About Seakeeper Inc.

Pope's abuse prevention commission prioritizes survivors, education

Vatican City, Apr 23, 2018 / 07:00 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Pope Francis' commission for the protection of minors met in Rome last week to listen to survivors of clerical sexual abuse, and to discuss abuse prevention education and policy, and ways the Church might work more closely with abuse survivors.

According to an April 22 communique from the commission, the first day of their plenary was dedicated to hearing thoughts and testimonies from survivors of clerical sexual abuse, many of them members of the Survivor Advisory Panel (SAP) of the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission of England and Wales.

Those who attended voiced appreciation for being listened to, and described the encounter as “empowering.”

One of the survivors, according to the communique, voiced hope that their visit would help the commission “develop a wider network of survivors who are willing to advise and support” the commission's work in a similar manner.

The commission expressed gratitude to the SAP group for offering their “expertise and experiences” during the plenary, saying their contribution will help the commission “to develop effective ways to integrate the voice of survivors into the life and ministry of the Church.”

In comments made in a video statement uploaded by the Center for Child Protection (CCP) April 14, clerical abuse survivor Deborah Kloos, who is not a member of the SAP but met with commission members during the plenary, said the Church needs to pray regularly for victims of clerical sexual abuse.

“It is something very important to me that our Catholic Church prays together for people wounded by abuse, because so many were wounded under the roof of the Church,” she said, asking the pope to lead the Church in praying for those who have been abused.

The wound of abuse, she said, affects survivors “their entire life and it separates them from the Eucharist.”

Kloos, who is originally from Canada, has long lobbied for a day of prayer for the victims of clerical sexual abuse, which Pope Francis has asked bishops' conferences to organize at a local level.

After her abuse more than three decades ago, Kloos left the Catholic Church for a period, but eventually came back, and sings in her parish choir.

“I feel very connected,” she said in the video, but lamented that “the only thing missing is that I don't hear the Church praying in the prayers of the faithful for those who have been wounded by abuse.”

“It's very important and I ask everyone to remember, because if we don't remember and we don't bring it out, then there's no way that healing can occur,” Kloos said. “You don't see the people separated from the Church, but there are thousands of people who don't come to Mass anymore because someone was wounded under the roof of this Church.”

During their meeting, the commission also heard presentations on the outcome of the Australian Royal Commission's inquiry into institutional responses to sexual abuse, as well as the role that faith communities play in helping to overcome trauma.

On Saturday, April 21, members met with Pope Francis in a private audience. During the encounter, the pope said he intended to confirm the commission's statutes, which had been approved for an experimental period of three years when the commission was established in 2015.

Commission members also outlined to the pope their priorities moving forward, which they said can clearly be seen through three specific working groups: working with survivors, education and formation, and prevention guidelines and norms.

After meeting Pope Francis on Saturday, the commission closed their plenary Sunday, April 22. No date has yet been announced for their next gathering.

The commission was established by Pope Francis in March 2014, and is headed by Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston.

The commission's initial mandate ended in December 2017, and in February of this year the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had reconfirmed some members of the commission, including O'Malley as its president, and that he had also appointed several new members.

New members who joined are Benyam Dawit Mezmur from Ethiopia; Sr. Arina Gonsalves, RJM from India; Neville Owen from Australia; Sinalelea Fe’ao from Tonga; Myriam Wijlens from the Netherlands; Ernesto Caffo from Italy; Sr. Jane Bertelsen, FMDM from the U.K.; Teresa Kettelkamp from the U.S.; and Nelson Giovanelli Rosendo Dos Santos from Brazil.

The returning commission members are Dr. Gabriel Dy-Liacco from the Philippines; Bishop Luis Manuel Alí Herrera from Colombia; Fr. Hans Zollner, SJ from Germany; Hannah Suchocka from Poland; Sr. Kayula Lesa, RSC from Zambia; Sr. Hermenegild Makoro, CPS from South Africa; and Mons. Robert Oliver from the U.S.

Survivors of clerical sexual abuse are among commission members, however, the names of the survivors have not been made public, leaving it up to them whether they to disclose their experiences.

*First quarter*

· Net sales for the first quarter reached SEK 320 m (279), corresponding to an increase of 15 %
· Operating result reached SEK 63 m (57), equal to a 20 % (21) operating margin
· Order intake was SEK 350 m (299)

*Last twelve months*

· Net sales for the last twelve months amounted to SEK 1 225 m (1 030), corresponding to a 19 % increase. The revaluation of the Swedish krona had a positive impact of SEK 10 m
· Operating profit was SEK 218 m (186), equal to a 18 % (18) operating margin
· Order intake reached SEK 1 255 m (1 065)
· Cash flow from operating activities amounted to SEK 174 m (203)
· Profit after taxes totaled SEK 140 m (128) and the earnings per share was SEK 2.99 (2.75)*Comment from the CEO*

The year had a positive start with strong growth and profitability, which during the first quarter resulted in a new record turnover and an operating margin in line with our target of 20%.

The strong growth in Asia continues and a new Singapore office was established at the beginning of the quarter to further strengthen our position in Southeast Asia. Also in Europe, we see stable growth and continued strong demand. The somewhat uncertain market situation in North America continues in the beginning of the year with no growth in local currency, although some improvement was seen in the latter part of the quarter.

We see a slightly improved gross margin, which consists mainly of a favorable product mix and certain economies of scale during the quarter.

Over the last 12 months, the number of employees has increased by approximately 50 people to strengthen key functions. We see that this investment has yielded positive results as expected and we achieve, despite increased costs, SEK 63 m in operating profit for the quarter, corresponding to 20 % operating margin.

As previously announced, we have started an expansion of the Halmstad production facility to meet future expected volume increases. This work goes according to plan. We still see long delivery times on several electronic components and to counteract future delivery impact, we continue to increase our component inventories. Recently, delivery times have continued to increase, and this situation is expected to continue a bit into 2019. The primary impact for us is that we need to keep a larger component stock than usual, to continue maintaining good delivery times towards our customers. Despite somewhat higher working capital in the quarter, we see that our financial situation is still strong with a low net debt of about 1.26 times EBITDA on a yearly basis.

We continue to work on our organic growth, which was 14 % in local currencies compared with the first quarter of 2017. In parallel, we are working long-term to find new interesting acquisitions to complement our business.

We stick to our ambitious growth targets for coming years – A long-term annual growth of 20 % per annum and an operating margin of more than 20 %. Our focus is to drive continued growth in all our business areas.

We continue to focus on our long-term growth goals based on a balanced view of our costs. In the long run, we estimate that the market for industrial data communications will constitute an interesting growth area and we continue to focus on our motto “HMS Connecting Devices”.

With over 50 years experience in the creation of exquisite footwear, the family-run business recently launched a collection of discerning handbags combining their unique appreciation of heritage, tradition, and know-how with a twist of modern irony.

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) April 24, 2018

Nestled in Italy’s Marche region, Anibaldi has been synonymous with traditional craftsmanship which has been jealously treasured and passed down from one generation to the next.

With over 50 years experience in the creation of exquisite footwear, the family owned-business recently launched a collection of discerning handbags combining their unique appreciation of heritage, tradition, and know-how with a twist of modern irony.

A palette of ivory, ebony and antique rose serves as a basis for Fabio Anibaldi’s 2018 Capusle collection. The inspiration stems from the regions’ stunning surroundings and in particular from the floral decorations of the 18th Century Cathedral of Fermo vaults, which are stylistically represented resulting in a stunning brocade effect.

“As a young boy I would visit the cathedral with my family, and my eyes would always be drawn to the delicate designs spanning from gothic to neoclassic styles. When it was time to start sketching the bag collection I felt compelled to incorporate them into the designs”

In keeping with local tradition, only the finest Saffiano leathers have been used, with an exception made for what Anibaldi affectionately christened ‘a mother-earth capsule within a capsule’ which was fashioned using superior eco-leather to meet vegan demands for luxury stylish handbags. Indeed his latest customized bags created for few vegan Hollywood's elite.

“As the big players in the luxury and fashion industry move towards more eco-friendly and sustainable products, it is imperative that even smaller family-run businesses also do their bit to try to make a difference.”

Customized versions of Anibaldi’s collection now grace the closets of some Hollywood celebrities.

About Fabio Anibaldi

Founded in 1982 in Monte Urano, italy, a family-owned business, with almost a century-old tradition of expert shoes making in the italian epicentre of leather goods craftsmanship.

Fabio Anibaldi has extended their expertise into a cohesive collection of luxury leather handbags, committed to combining the finest quality skins with highly conceptual design.
