Italian olive oil producer Bellucci Premium responds to an article published by YottaFire that discusses a dietary study done by Linköping University in Sweden which reveals the Mediterranean diet without breakfast is the most beneficial diet for those with type 2 diabetes.
In an article published by YottaFire on December 28th titled “Mediterranean diet without breakfast the best choice for diabetics,” a study conducted by Linköping University in Sweden is discussed. The study had 21 patients with type 2 diabetes try three different diet plans: a low-fat diet, a low-carbohydrate diet, and a Mediterranean diet. By measuring the effects these diets had on the patients’ blood glucose, blood lipids, and various hormones, the best diet plan would be determined. The patients’ blood samples were collected at six points throughout each day of the study.
The study found that the low-carbohydrate diet yielded lower glucose levels but resulted in higher triglycerides, whereas the low-fat diet resulted in higher glucose levels but lower triglycerides. The Mediterranean diet, without breakfast, resulted in the most favorable results. This is because the Mediterranean diet provides energy from carbohydrates and its fat sources from olives and fatty fish.
Natalie Sexenian, the marketing manager for Italian olive oil producer Bellucci Premium, says, “The Mediterranean diet is a smart choice for those with type 2 diabetes. It is rich with complex carbohydrates and healthy fats while excluding sugars, white flour, and ‘bad’ fats. For diabetics, the quality of fat and carbohydrate intake is important. You don’t want to exclude them from your diet, but you do want to make sure you are consuming high-quality carbs and fats. For example, eat grains instead of white sugar and unsaturated fats instead of saturated fats. The healthy fats found in organic olive oil and fish can not only help manage diabetes, but also aid in the reversal of the disease.”
Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
