The Saint Paul Conservatory of Music announces upcoming events, including Early Music Day on March 9.

The Saint Paul Conservatory of Music will present the seventh annual Early Music Day on March 9. “L’arte del suonare: The Art of Playing,” an all day festival of Early Music playing will begin at 9 a.m. and culminates in a 4:00 p.m. performance as part of Lyra’s Family Concert series in downtown St. Paul at The Baroque Room at 275 East 4th St., Suite 280 in the Lowertown neighborhood.
Professionals, amateurs and enthusiasts of all ages will convene to celebrate early music through participation in a performance of works by Corelli, Vivaldi and more. Music from Italy, England and Germany explore the country styles and their unique way of experiencing the world.
Featured artists at Early Music Day include Baroque Strings, directed by Jin Kim, assisted by violinist Marc Levine; Recorder Orchestra, directed by Mary Halverson Waldo; and Renaissance Band, directed by Ginna Watson. The festival is directed by Julie Elhard.
Early Music Day is just one of several related events that are taking place in the coming months. Lyra will present a Happy 300th Birthday, CPE Bach! Concert at 7:30 p.m. March 7 at the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester and at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul. An SPCM Coffee Concert featuring the Baroque Trio will be held at noon Wednesday, April 2 at The Baroque Room. There is no charge to attend. Kim will perform on baroque violin and by joined by Paul Boehnke on harpsichord and Elhard on viola da gamba.
SPCM, in partnership with Twin Cities Recorder Guild, will present Vicki Boeckman in concert on Saturday, April 19, at The Baroque Room. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. with special guests Boehnke, Clea Galhano and Joan Griffith, who will play guitar. Tickets are $20 for seniors and $10 for students. Boeckman will also host a workshop at The Baroque Room from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $35 for members of TCRG, $45 for non-members and $20 for students.
