Berkeley Rep's 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' opens There was a time, recalls director Christopher Bayes, when political theater was something people wanted and when playwrights like Nobel laureate Dario Fo were more in demand. Accidental Death of an Anarchist" also reunites many members of the "Doctor" company who worked together on an earlier production of "Servant of Two Masters. Written in 1970, "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" is based on an actual 1969 incident in Fo's native Italy. A suspected anarchist was being questioned by police about a bank bombing in Milan and fell to his death from a fourth-story window. Steven plays a character called Maniac who comes in and can say anything he wants and get away with it.
