Though he already has three kids of his own, Italian soccer player Antonio Floro Flores is hoping to add one more to his brood.

The Sassuolo forward recently offered to adopt an infant who was abandoned on a train near Naples, Italy, according to the Los Angeles Times. Floro Flores was apparently struck by the story of how the baby boy was left in a railway car, and contacted authorities to see if he could provide a home for the child, Forza Italian Football reported.

"After seeing little Francesco, we followed what our heart dictated. I am a father before being a soccer player, but certainly not a hero!" Floro Flores wrote on Twitter, according to a HuffPost translation.

The baby was discovered on March 16 in a bag stashed under a seat on a train that was traveling from Naples to Baiano, Italy's The Local reports. The newborn boy, estimated to be about 3 or 4 days old when he was abandoned, was transported to a local hospital in the nearby town of Avellino for evaluation. It was there that the "healthy" boy received his name, Francesco, after the pope.

Local authorities attempted to locate the parents of the newborn, but were unsuccessful.

Floro Flores and his wife hope to adopt the infant. However, the athlete assures that they will follow adoption procedures to a tee. Reported by Huffington Post 5 hours ago.
