Mathew Gordon’s first competition at the world level leaves him ranked X and qualified for the world championship short course.

(PRWEB) August 10, 2014

For his first ever world competition Matthew Gordon has hit the water with a splash. As a former competitive swimmer Matthew recently competed at the 15th FINA world masters event in Montreal, on August 5th. Held every two years it's an invite only event open to adult swimmers, divers, and water polo players from across the globe. This is the long course championship for the swimmers, with Doha being the short course format. The event drew over 9,000 participants, 6, 000 of which were swimmers representing 97 countries.

The 25m fly world championships began 98 heats, and 858 swimmers entering the water. Matthew entered the event with a seed time of 28.95 and finished much lower with a confirmed time of 29.47, resulting in 25th place in the world and 7th from the United States Swimmers out of the 122 who were set to swim.

Entering the event Matthew was a 20/21 seed, a time which would of placed him in ninth place at the world competition in 2012 in Italy. He recently finished fifth in US Nationals and had been ranked as low as ninth in the nation.

Matthew had taken 30 years off from swimming at any level before entering a competitive swim cold in January 2014. When asked about his plan to getting here he said “After about 30 years out of the water, my dream was to be able to compete at this level after being dormant in the sport for so long.”

He is thrilled to be included at this level of competitive swimming and will now return to Greenwich, and begin training for the World Championships is Doha in December. He is currently being trained by local legend Nick Cavataro and is hoping to continue moving up the rankings with good swim on the short course.

In addition to being a competitive swimmer, Matthew Gordon is President and CEO of The Gordon Group, a holding company that primarily manages GraduationSource and Avanti Systems USA. Gordon strives to foster positive corporate culture and empower young minds.
