LONDON -- British police say they have arrested a convicted Mafia boss who has been sought by Italian authorities for almost 20 years.
London's Metropolitan Police force says 64-year-old Domenico Rancadore was detained Wednesday on a European arrest warrant. He is due to appear at a London court on Thursday for an extradition hearing.
Police say Rancadore is wanted in Italy to serve an outstanding seven-year sentence "for participation in Mafia association" in Sicily between 1987 and 1995. He went on the run in 1994 and was later convicted in his absence in Italy.
Italy's Interior Ministry said that Rancadore was chief of the Sicilian Mafia, or Cosa Nostra, in Trabia, Sicily, in the 1990s.
It said he had been running a travel agency while living in London. Reported by Huffington Post 2 days ago.
