Lamborghini last week officially published details of the new Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse, being billed as the most aggressive supercar ever to be allowed on the roads.
The new Gallardo, unveiled by team Lamborghini at its head office in Bologna, Italy, was inspired by the Super Trofeo racecar and named after Lamborghini’s new motorsports division.
The latest department in the Italian motor is responsible for all motorsports activities from GT3 to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships.
To be debuted at Frankfurt motor show next month, the Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse shares many features of the Super Trofeo such as the fixed rear wing which is said to generate considerably more down force than the standard Gallardo LP560-4.
It also has a removable engine cover with a quick-release system which is made from a carbon composite material to reduce any weight. Its weight, or lack of it, is very much a talking point. The Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse weighs in at 1340kg, which is some 70kg less than the LP560-4.
Using the standard Superleggera’s 419kW 5.2-litre V10, a six-speed e-gear sequential gearbox and carbon-ceramic brakes, the Squadra Corse is able to get from 0-100km per hour in 3.4 seconds, with the forward thrust reaching 320 km per hour.
Visually, the Squadra Corse is equally as striking. The latest in the Gallardo stable, has a decal strip along its flank bearing the colours of the Italian flag and a choice of yellow, white, grey or red exterior.
In contrast to the paintwork, the large rear wing has a matte black finish while the engine cover, front air intakes, rear diffuser and forged wheels are all painted in high-gloss black. Meanwhile, the brake calipers are available in red, black or yellow.
It is understood that the Squadra Corse could be Lamborghini’s final Gallardo, which is arguably the most successful model the Italian car maker has ever made and certainly a popular Lamborghini to hire.
It is also one of the most expensive supercars to date, with a price tag of $261,000. So for those supercar lovers who do not have that kind of money to spend on a car, why not consider renting a Lamborghini Gallardo Spider instead?
