Donate to No Kid Hungry throughout the month of September at any of Monte Restaurant Development Group’s restaurants.
Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) September 04, 2013
Everyone gets hungry, but for most of us, it’s just a minor inconvenience, a discomfort you can easily assuage. For countless children across the country though, hunger is a part of their daily lives, like breathing—it’s always there. The No Kid Hungry campaign through Share Our Strength is trying to change that—and so is the Monte Restaurant Development Group. When you dine with one of their restaurants (Squisito Pizza and Pasta, Carpaccio Tuscan Kitchen and Wine Bar, Four Seasons Grille and Four Seasons Bistro) during the month of September, you’ll have the opportunity to donate to No Kid Hungry and help end child hunger in the U.S.; and when you donate, you’ll get a coupon to use on your next visit to their restaurant(s).
Share Our Strength began with siblings, Bill and Debbie Shore, in the basement of a row house in Capitol Hill in 1984 as a response to the famine in Ethiopia. They started the organization with the belief that everyone has strength to share in the global fight against hunger and poverty. They launched their first No Kid Hungry pilot programs in 2006, to begin connecting kids to school breakfast and summer meal programs in their communities across the country, as well as by working with families to provide nutritious food at home. Seven years later, they have 35 corporate sponsors (including The Food Network); they have advocated for a bill in Congress, Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, and been instrumental in its passage; they have instituted programs to help teach low-income families how to shop and cook healthy foods on a budget; and with the help of restaurants all over the country, they’ve dedicated the month of September to fighting child hunger.
This is the first year that the Monte Restaurant Development Group has been involved with No Kid Hungry, but it is an opportunity they welcome. According to Michele DiMeo, COO/Director of Stores for Monte Restaurant Development Group, “Every year we look for initiatives that we can support as a collective group to give back to not only our supportive, loyal guests locally, but to those in the country that are less fortunate than us. When we were presented this fundraising opportunity, it was an absolute no-brainer for Gennaro, myself and our locations to get behind and support. Having children myself, I know how important it is for overall development, growth, brain stimulation and long-term health and happiness that children eat nutritious foods when they are young. To know and understand the statistics of how many children are hungry on a daily basis in the US is disturbing. So when presented with No Kid Hungry, we got right on board and starting promoting within our restaurants. Plus, we know how much kids love pizza and what better way to raise money to feed children of the US than with their favorite food.”
No Kid Hungry reports that 16.2 million children in the U.S., or 1 in 5, “live in households that lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis.” Since summer 2011, No Kid Hungry has provided 34 million additional meals to hungry children across the U.S. This year, Monte Restaurant Development Group is pitching in to help that number grow. Their hope is that with their help, one day no kid will be hungry.
