Europe's most active volcano, Mt Etna in Italy, erupted on Saturday night with a spectacular display of spewing ash and fire
ROME, Italy -- Mount Etna lit up the skies over eastern Sicily with a spectacular eruption over the weekend. Shooting up a towering column of ash and fire thousands of feet high, Mt Etna sprang to life on Saturday night and spewed lava into the sky for over five hours.
The latest lava flows did not endanger any houses, and no evacuation was ordered.
Etna's last major eruption was in 1992, but the volcano has regular smaller eruptions each year - it is Europe's tallest and most active volcano.
