ECB: Good news for Germany, bad news for Italy – Nordea Markets

$
0
0
According to Jan von Gerich, Research Analyst at Nordea Markets, German bonds are set to dominate ECB buying next year, when the focus shifts from net bond purchases to reinvestments.

*Key Quotes*

“Italy should not expect much more help from ECB bond purchases, and the new capital key will hurt Italy further.”

“The ECB will scale down its monthly bond purchases from EUR 30bn to EUR 15bn at the end of September.”

“The next point of focus will be the ECB’s reinvestment programme, which will receive increasing focus, as net purchases cease. Close to EUR 200bn of bonds which the Eurosystem holds in its asset purchases programmes will mature in 2019 and will be reinvested. The reinvestment programme is thus quite sizable as well and will have significance for the bond markets.”

“Both the redemption outlook and the changed capital key will support the German bond market further in 2019 and should act as a buffer against higher yields. Given that Germany is currently running public surpluses and seeing its borrowing needs decline, it is among the last countries that would be in need of a buyer.”

“Italy, in turn, which is planning increased fiscal spending and with that rising bond issuance needs, will be the biggest relative loser in the ECB’s reinvestments. As a result, the country should not count on the ECB to keep its bond yields in check. More likely, pressure from the Italian bond market in the form of higher government bond yields will probably prevent the Italian government from implementing its most extreme policy plans in the end.” Reported by FXstreet.com 1 hour ago.

BJP calls off Bengal Bandh two hours earlier, Mamata blames them for Islampur deaths

$

The West Bengal unit of the BJP Wednesday termed its shutdown in the state as a "complete success" and called it off two hours ahead of the scheduled time.

The party had called the 12-hour shutdown from 6 am to protest against the killing of two students in a clash over appointment of Urdu teachers at Islampur area in North Dinajpur district on September 20. "As the bandh has been successful, so we have decided to call it off two hours ahead of the scheduled time," BJP state president Dilip Ghosh told reporters. The shutdown was a "complete success" as the people have willing participated and supported it as it was called for genuine reasons, he said.

"The visuals that we have seen and the reports that we have received from the districts prove that the shutdown was a success," Ghosh added. In some places, members of the ruling TMC tried to foment trouble and had put the blame on innocent BJP workers, he claimed.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday alleged that the BJP was behind the killing of the two students in North Dinajpur district and is now trying to derive political mileage out of the issue by calling a bandh.
She blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for trying to disturb peace during its 12-hour shutdown and praised the state administration for "foiling attempts" to disrupt normal life in Bengal. Banerjee, who is in Italy's Milan on an official tour, termed the shutdown as a "complete failure" as the people of Bengal have rejected the "culture of shutdown and bandhs".

She asked  police  to act as per the law passed by the state Assembly which empowers the administration to seek compensation from political parties for losses and damages during political agitation or shutdown. Attacking the BJP, she said, "They themselves (BJP) have killed two students and now are trying to derive political benefits from it. Why are they mum on farmers' suicides in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan? Why are they mum on the encounter killings in Uttar  Pardesh ?""If you are in politics then you have some responsibility towards the society. Being in politics doesn't mean that you can go  scott  free by unleashing violence," she said.

The chief minister claimed the attendance in government offices, schools  is  more than 95  per cent . The normal life has not at all been affected in the state. "We are very much opposed to this culture of shutdown and bandh. This culture has ruined Bengal for the last so many years. Now BJP too is trying to follow  this disruptive  politics," she said. The government will not tolerate hooliganism and torching of government and private property. "Who will pay for the buses that  was  torched today? We will ask the police to act as per  law  passed by the assembly where we will seek compensation from those who are responsible for this violence," she said.

2018's most popular cars in Europe – by country

$
0
0
In case you hadn’t heard, the Ford Fiesta has been best-seller in the UK for a number of years. Here’s what other European Union countries are buying

The top ten best-selling cars in the UK are easy to spot; on every street there’s at least one Fiesta, Qashqai, Focus or Golf.

What is the best-selling car in other countries, though? Find out below which cars the rest of Europe loves as much as the UK loves the Ford Fiesta, measured by market analysts JATO Dynamics:

*Austria: Volkswagen Golf*

*
*

With no mainstream car manufacturers, Austria’s top-seller can’t be from a domestic manufacturer. 8310 buyers have flocked to the Volkswagen Golf so far this year, while the next two are also VW group big-hitters; the Polo, at 6839, and the Skoda Octavia at 6229.

*Belgium: Volkswagen Golf*

The same can be said for Belgium, but clearly being wedged between France and Germany has its effects: the Volkswagen Golf is the most popular car this year, followed by the Renault Clio and Hyundai Tucson. 10,496, 8720 and 8597 have found owners respectively so far this year.

*Croatia: Skoda Octavia*

It's all change in Croatia; in 2016, the best-sellers were the Nissan Qashqai and Toyota Yaris, while this year, the Skoda Octavia, Renault Clio and Volkswagen Polo take the top three, with 2466, 2250 and 1712 sales respectively.

*Czechia: Skoda Octavia*

No two guesses which carmaker rules supreme here - the Skoda Octavia has sold 18,232 units and the second-best-seller was the Fabia, which has sold 17,757, in fact, half of the country’s top ten best-sellers are Skodas. The Rapid takes third, with 10,214 sold.

*Denmark: Peugeot 208*

Peugeot’s only top spot in Europe this year is in Denmark, where 7017 208s found homes so far, while the next best-seller is the Nissan Qashqai, of which 6546 were sold. Trailing in third place was the Volkswagen Golf; 4046 have found homes this year.

*Estonia: Toyota Avensis*

Estonia has a proclivity for larger cars, it would seem, as the now out of production Toyota Avensis takes pole position having sold 766 cars, while 738 and 732 units put the Skoda Octavia and Renault Clio in second and third place respectively.

*Finland: Nissan Qashqai*

Nissan claims another victory in Finland with the Qashqai – 4726 were sold there this year so far. Second place was taken by the former leader - the Skoda Octavia - although nearly 900 fewer (3840) were sold across the year. The Toyota Yaris took third place with 3108 sales.

*France: Renault Clio*

Little surprise here; France’s top car across this year is the Renault Clio, and a whopping 83.936 take it right to the top. The Peugeot 208 takes second place, with 68,850 units being sold, while the other French supermini, the Citroën C3, was overtaken last year from third by the Peugeot 3008, with 58,431 sold.

*Germany: Volkswagen Golf*

*
*

Volkswagen takes back its 1, 2, 3 in Germany, but there's change at third place - the Golf has sold 125,490 cars in the country. It sells so well that the second-place Passat sold less than half this number; 53,512, while the Ford Focus and Tiguan now fight the Volkswagen Polo for third. The Polo wins though, with 51,131, overtaking both.

*Greece: Toyota Yaris*

The Toyota Yaris takes the top spot in Greece again, with 4477 cars sold, compared to the second-place Fiat Panda’s 3123 units sold. Third goes to the Volkswagen Polo; 2460 have Greek homes across 2018 so far.

*Hungary: Suzuki Vitara*

Hungarian buyers have quite an appetite (sorry) for the Suzuki Vitara, quite probably because it's made there -  the model sold 8371 units there so far this year. Meanwhile, the Skoda Octavia sold 4292 down in second place, and the Opel Astra has sold 3609.

*Ireland: Hyundai Tucson*

Hyundai has well and truly taken hold in Ireland; the Tucson was the best-selling car across the Irish sea in 2016 and 2017, and has fended off (just) competition from the Nissan Qashqai, which sold 3899 units this year so far to the Hyundai's 3916. The Volkswagen Golf completes the ever-so-close top three, with 3833 sales.

*Italy: Fiat Panda*

Nationalism wins, once again, with Fiat taking two podium spots – the Fiat Panda is the best-selling car so far this year, with 77,809 finding homes. The Fiat 500X, having shifted 38,966, while the 500 was knocked off third by the Renault Clio, on 37,163. It has been a 60/40 split between Fiat Chrysler group cars and other manufacturers in the past, with the Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta, and Volkswagens Polo and Golf in the top ten, too.

*Latvia: Volkswagen Golf*

Another win for the Golf – it claims a small victory this year, with 646 sold overall. The Nissan Qashqai - last year's best-seller - came in second, having sold 520 units, while the third-place Toyota RAV4 sold 371.

*Lithuania: Fiat 500*

Fiat’s second pole position came in Lithuania, where the 500 has found 3147 homes, while the Fiat Tipo overtook the 500X and Skoda Octavia last year to become second best-seller, on 1235. The Octavia sunk to fourth, with the Fiat 500X claiming third, at 1131.

*Luxembourg: Volkswagen Golf*

*
*

It's almost another douze points for the Volkswagen Group from Luxembourg this year; the Volkswagen Golf takes top spot, while the Tiguan took second and the Mercedes-Benz GLC snatched third from the Audi A3 and Renault Clio. Sales were 1606, 929 and 830 respectively.

*Netherlands: Volkswagen Polo*

It's all change for the Dutch! The Renault Clio has been ousted from its top spot and into second place - the Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio and Volkswagen Up now make up the big three, with 11,276, 9790, and 7951 sales. The Ford Fiesta slips off the podium.

*Norway: Nissan Leaf*

Surprise! The Volkswagen Golf was the best-selling car in Norway last year, but it's been overtaken by the Nissan Leaf, with 8012 sold. The Golf (bolstered by e-Golf sales) slipped into second place, at 6297. The BMW i3 slipped from second to third place, at 3542.

*Poland: Skoda Octavia*

*
*

Skoda took another top two in Poland, with the Octavia and Fabia taking first and second place with the narrowest of margins separating the two; the Octavia taking 14,842 and Fabia taking 13,134 sales in the country. The Opel Astra took third, on 11,645.

*Portugal: Renault Clio*

French and small cars dominate the podium in Portugal, as the Renault Clio sold 10,753 as the country’s best-seller, and the Peugeot 208 and Renault Captur sold 5033 and 4981.

*Romania: Dacia Logan*

Dacia took its home market by storm last year, and continues to do so. The Logan and Duster make up 2018's top two, with the former finding homes in 15,779 garages, and the latter parked in 6804. The Sandero took third place with 4176, and the Skoda Octavia slipped off the top three at fourth in the Romanian market.

*Slovakia: Skoda Fabia*

The Skoda Fabia took pole position in Slovakia, while its big brother, the Octavia, wasn’t far behind. The Fabia was bought by 3843 Slovakians, and the Octavia was bought by 3331. The Rapid, in third place, sold 2579.

*Slovenia: Renault Clio*

The Volkswagen Golf climbed to second in the Slovenian market in 2017, but drops; with 2148 sales evaporating its lead over the now second-place Polo, which sold 2208. First place goes to the Renault Clio, though, with 2708 sales. The Clio is built in Slovenia in facelifted form, which helps it maintain its lead there.

*Spain: Seat Leon*

What’s Spanish for ‘quelle surprise’? The Seat Leon and Ibiza take gold and silver in Spain, with 26,158 and 24,152 finding a place in the sun so far this year, and the Ateca's Japanese rival, the Nissan Qashqai, takes third place with 23,829. Surprisingly, though, the rest of the top ten is a healthy mix.

*Sweden: Volvo S90/V90*

There was uproar in 2016 when the Volkswagen Golf took the lead in Sweden’s car market from Volvo, but three Volvos combined took second: the S80, V70 and XC70. Volvo was back on top in 2017, and today, the S90 and V90 are in pole position on 19,069, followed by the S60 and V60, with 12,168 sales, while the Golf takes third on 11,897. The XC60 is pushed down into fourth place.

*Switzerland: Skoda Octavia*

With no native carmakers of any large volume, the Swiss buy the Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Tiguan more than any other cars. 5600 have bought an Octavia so far this year, and 4453 and 4012 have bought Golfs and Tiguans.

*UK: Ford Fiesta*

The Fiesta is perched atop the lofty list of the UK’s top-sellers, with 67,189 sold this year. 49,692 Volkswagen Golf and 34,910 Nissan Qashqai sales cement second and third places for the best-seller regulars. You can find the rest of the best-seller list here.

wine2wine is the most important forum on the wine business in Italy, as well as the reference point for wine professionals wishing to develop their business. The 2018 edition, to be held at the Veronafiere Congress Center on November 26th and 27th, showcases a new 45-minute format and a prestigious line-up of international speakers featuring, among others, CEO of Krug Champagne Margareth Henriquez, Master of Wine Sarah Heller, and President of sommelier association GuildSomm Geoff Kruth.

VERONA, Italy (PRWEB) September 26, 2018

wine2wine offers wine professionals the opportunity to meet, share ideas, and acquire in-depth knowledge on specific themes ranging from digital innovation, communications, and marketing to export, market focuses, sustainability, and more.

At wine2wine 2018, wine producers, export and marketing managers, consultants, journalists, and experts from all spheres of the wine business will gather for a unique chance to participate in educational sessions, labs, and workshops held by an impressive line-up of speakers of national and international standing.

Now at its 5th edition, wine2wine 2018 will open with a keynote address entitled “Luxury brand communication and women’s leadership: Margareth Henriquez shares her story.” In this speech, President and CEO of Krug Champagne and the LVMH Wine Estates will address the way digital tools and storytelling techniques are best integrated into the promotion and brand communication of wines.

In addition to Henriquez, wine2wine will also feature the youngest Master of Wine in the world, Sarah Heller, who lives and work in Hong Kong. Heller will explain how younger Asian female consumers are driving wine consumption growth and changing the tone of the conversation across the Asian continent. She will discuss the way Italian wineries can make their branding campaigns and promotional messages resonate with this new wave of eager wine consumers.

Another international guest of the convention is Geoff Kruth, Master Sommelier and President of the sommelier association GuildSomm. Kruth’s speech is entitled “Sommeliers and Their Influence in the US Market,” and will address the growth and influence of the sommelier figure in the US wine market. Kruth will touch on crucial topics for Italian wineries that are looking to deepen their understanding of the US market: how sommeliers add value to restaurants and their customers; how to extend the reach of the sommelier through social media; and how wineries can work with sommeliers to reach new customers.

This year wine2wine will also showcase a new 45-minute format, with each session being made up by a 30-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute Q&A. At the end of each presentation, the speakers will highlight practical ‘takeaways’, that is, hands-on suggestions that participants will be able to apply directly to their business. The Q&A part calls for a direct interaction between speakers and attendees. In addition, there will be another 15-minute time window during which participants will have the chance to connect and network with other wine professionals.

Stevie Kim, Managing Director of Vinitaly International, commented on the new format: “Every year we are striving to make slight but significant changes deriving mostly from requests we gathered directly from participants to the previous edition. We are especially mindful of the concept “WIIFM - What’s In It For Me,” since our main purpose is to give attendees solid takeaways to improve their business.”

As part of the revamp of the new edition, #w2wLabs have been included in the program. These sessions are practical demonstrations open to a selected audience, who will have the opportunity to learn about optimizing a website, write a successful PR, or leverage Instagram to grow business.

Participating wineries will also have the chance to enrol for B2B sessions, where they will meet and present their products to buyers from some of the world’s developing wine markets such as South Corea, Poland, Mexico, and Switzerland. Once again, “HireMeVinitaly” will open the second day staging a speed dating between winery owners and professionals seeking to work in the wine industry.

For the third year at wine2wine, Wine Spectator’s Senior Editor and Tasting Director Alison Napjus will reveal the 100 Finest Italian wine producers chosen by the magazine for OperaWine 2019, which will be held on Saturday, April 6th. In a dedicated session during wine2wine Napjus will also explain what wineries need to do in order to be selected for the glamorous gala that traditionally opens Vinitaly.
