Sound Energy is in an excellent position, FinnCap says

Sound Energy (LON:SOU) is in an excellent position with a strengthened portfolio, according to broker finnCap. The AIM quoted firm recently expanded, acquiring assets in Morocco to add to its Italian portfolio. Earlier this month the company began earth works at its first Moroccan programme, at the Tendrara licence area. And, the company also recently reached a long awaited milestone with the start-up of production at the Nervesa gas field in Italy. “This time last year, Sound was solely focused on Italy and more specifically on Nervesa coming onstream,” said finnCap analyst Dougie Youngson. “Through a series of balance sheet-friendly acquisitions it has acquired a strong foothold in Morocco consistent with its Mediterranean gas strategy. “Today, Nervesa is onstream and there is scope for new production coming from Morocco in the short term, enhancing the cash flow generation aspect of the Sound story.” He added that with the strengthened portfolio and as activity ramps up, Sound Energy is in an excellent position “to see serious traction across a number of its assets this year.” Finncap repeated a ‘buy’ recommendation, with a 32p price target. Hats off to Caring Capitalism

Hats are back, and they are cool again.

The source, at least in sunny climes around the world, is the Greenpacha Panama hat company, and the person responsible for Greenpacha is Florencia Gomez Gerbi, a cheerfully serious 33-year-old Argentine San Diegan.

However, the story is more than the return of the jaunty Panama to the tawny heads of the hip and the beautiful, the sportif and the spiritual, from Windansea to Ipanema. Greenpacha is the forerunner of a new trend in business. Call it caring capitalism, social entrepreneurship, or simply giving back, but a percentage of the gross is repatriated to the original producers. In the case of Greenpacha, funds go to a community of 2,000 weavers, mostly women, in Ecuador.

These hats are not your grandpa's chapeaux, of course. And not the famous woven white straw mat that covered President Teddy Roosevelt's aging locks back in 1906, when he inaugurated the Panama Canal from the control panel of a 95-ton steam shovel (ah, the Iron Age). These toppers have been redesigned and colored pink, yellow, skullcap amber and black for the surf and skateboard set.

Panama hats don't come from Panama, either. They originated in Ecuador and northern Peru, now Cuenca in the highlands of the Andes and Montecristi on the coast, where the toquilla palm grows, a tree almost as rare as the truffula in Dr. Seuss's The Lorax. Panama hats were sold to California's 49ers passing through the isthmus on their way to the gold fields, resulting, along with the Roosevelt Panama Canal connection, in the mistaken name. An earlier iteration of the great hat greeted the conquistadores. Archeological evidence even indicates that the palm's soft fibers were broken out 4,000 years ago to ward off the sun.

But it is more than tradition that we are dealing with here, in this iconic fashion accessory.

"In my spiritual way of seeing it," Gerbi explains in her rapid-fire, Castilian-accented, somewhat twisted new English, "the earth makes a plant, and with the help of a human hand the straw made from it is shaped into a hat, and so you wear something that came from the earth, a total human and natural combination that finally protects you from the sun."

Wearing a Greenpacha Panama, then, makes a statement. It is organic, natural, almost completely constructed by hand by women who have learned the craft over decades, from a culture hundreds of years old, with dyes squeezed from plants and insects, stretched on traditional looms. Wearing a Greenpacha, the motto of which is "Hats for a better world," could be as sustainable an act as going barefoot.

That was the idea -- the intellectual capital -- and Gerbi is nothing if not a budding mistress of fashion branding. But she exhibits innocence and heart, too, and that is important in the tricky new business model of social entrepreneurship, because without empathy there can be no authenticity. And without authenticity -- my friends, you are shopping at Kmart.

Even so, the hats retail for $75 to $150 at high-end and bellwether boutiques from Santa Monica to Italy. Gerbi was passing through Ecuador with her mother and sister and her sister's baby, and friends suggested they follow "The Hat Trail," as countless other entranced adventurers have done. She fell in love with the otherworldly concentration of the women making the hats. At the same time, she understood that the weavers needed money. Their men had migrated to America Norte. They were raising kids by themselves. Panama hats had fallen to the value of a tourist trinket.

She listened to the weavers' leaders and was also struck by some modern news. Chinese agronomists had entered the remote region and taken seedlings to Asia, where the hats could be made "for like 50 cents." But the toquilla would not grow in China. She realized she would be protected from Asian competition.
The idea was not only to give back. When I went there, I asked them what were their needs. They have a lot of needs and live in poverty. So they want to improve their life conditions -- these women -- and so they get rid of as many intermediaries as possible so their work is better paid, because they get the less amount of money in the chain. So what I do is to give back directly from 2 percent of the sales to these communities and with that money they just deliver according to their performance as weavers.
At the same time, Gerbi hopes the weavers' exposure to designers helps them improve style, shaping and finishing, and create different hat designs.

Florencia's younger sister Julieta, 30, became the designated designer after the trip, and Florencia took on the mantle of idea woman and marketer.

Next, Gerbi needed a name. She felt her "energy" aligned with Tom's Shoes, the huge "inspiration" or "movement" (don't call it a "corporation") that gives back "one-for-one" a pair of shoes to a shoeless kid in Argentina or Africa for every pair you buy in Manhattan. (And if you purchase some awesomely styled shades, Tom's will see to it that someone not in California, not so well-sighted, not so, perhaps, entitled, will be given a pair of spectacles in your name.)

On a surf run to Cabo, Florencia met with Tom's founder, a 27-year-old kid named Blake Mycoskie who makes millions of dollars annually by doing right. He got the idea about shoes while running in the second season of The Amazing Race with his own sister. Mycoskie told her T-O-M'S stood for "tomorrow shoes."

"I didn't know that. I thought his name was Tom," she said.

Mycoskie told her the name had to have meaning and that it was very important.
In Latin America, 'pacha' is a huge word that signifies something like 'times of the Inca' and at the same time, 'Mother Earth.' So that's what I liked -- Green Times. It makes sense to me because it's coming back from the roots, the best of the roots. And what is good is to bring to the present and enjoy it now. So that's the Green Times.
Wear the hat well. It's not just a hat.

Security Researchers Discover Over 2.3 Million New Android Malware Samples in 2015

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 24, 2016

Today, global security firm, G DATA, released its Q4 2015 Mobile Malware Report which found that the number of new malware instances rose to a record high of over 2.3 million in 2015. During the same timeframe, almost 40 percent of U.S. smartphone users used an Android device. Additionally, the report found that the number of new Android malware apps increased by almost 50 percent compared to 2014. G DATA experts expect a further increase in mobile malware in 2016. One reason for this is that more and more users are using their mobile devices for online banking and shopping as an alternative to the desktop PC.

“With the increase in mobile usage for sensitive transactions such as banking and shopping, the increase in mobile malware instances as well as malware apps is particularly alarming,” said Andy Hayter, security evangelist, G DATA. “The attack surface just continues to grow, and hackers are taking advantage. Users have to be more and more vigilant every day to protect themselves from becoming the next victim.”

G DATA security experts identified 758,133 new Android malware files in the fourth quarter of 2015. That is an increase of almost 32 percent compared to the third quarter (574,706). Hence 2015 attained another negative record, with a total of 2,333,777 new malware programs for the Android operating system.

G DATA forecasts for 2016· Evolution in Android malware: Cyber criminals have spotted the potential for high financial gain in the Android operating system. The switch from PCs to mobile devices will continue in 2016. For this reason, experts expect a further significant increase in malware figures.
· The Internet of Things in cyber criminals' sights: Connected vehicles, fitness wristbands and networks – the Internet of Things is becoming more and more popular, within our homes as well as at work. Criminals are stepping up their activities in this area and are specifically looking for security holes in order to exploit them. Numerous end devices are controlled via Android apps. The experts expect the threat to increase in 2016.

Germany could be Europe's next big problem

$

Germany could be Europe's next big problem This is as good as it gets for Germany and Europe.

Previously, it was the debt of the eurozone's peripheral countries that was of concern to the markets.

But in an interview with Business Insider, Geopolitical Futures founder George Friedman proclaimed that Europe now has a much bigger problem: Germany.

And at the heart of the looming issue for Germany and Europe is the Italian banking system.

"[Problems in Italian banks are] going to spill over into the Netherlands, it's going to spill over into Germany," Friedman said. "*Germany is the new PIIG. Germany depends on exports and its markets are drying up." *

The PIIGS economies — Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, and Spain — were the main concerns during the European debt crisis of 2011 and 2012. And with those crises seemingly having passed and Europe moving back towards a path to economic stability, Germany has been a big winner with its economy as strong as its been since re-unification and an unemployment rate down to 4.5%.

Germany has, however, been running a structural trade surplus underpinned by a weak euro with its trade surplus hitting a record $23.9 billion in June. And Friedman thinks Germany's export well is about to run dry.

Friedman believes that the problems in the Italian banking system are going to take Germany — the strongest economy in the eurozone — down with it.

Data released in late-2015 showed non-performing loans at Italian banks totaled €300 billion, 17.3% of outstanding loans.

That is a massive number considering the average for the euro zone is 6.8%, and Germany's NPL's are at just 2.3%.

According to Friedman, this is a big deal because Italy is the 4th largest economy in Europe and the 8th largest economy in the world. Italy's home to the largest banking system in Eastern Europe and there's a lot of inter-connectivity in play.

For example, Germany's largest bank, Deutsche Bank, has an enormous amount of exposure to Italy, and so does the rest of Europe. Ultimately Friedman thinks it will be Germany that has to save Italy.

And that will cost a lot of money.

"It's not the PIIGS one should worry about," Friedman said. "Germany hasn’t even begun falling yet. And when Germany falls, and it will, that’s when the panic begins to set in."

Wine & Spirits' 27th Annual Restaurant Poll Results

$

For 27 years Wine & Spirits Magazine has polled America's most popular restaurants to understand the on-premise wine market in its present state. Below shows a sneak peak into this year's results.

New York, New York (PRWEB) March 02, 2016

The results of Wine & Spirits Magazine's 27th Annual Restaurant Poll are in. And one of the biggest trends noted this year is an increase in the sale of wine via pairings and tastes rather than bottles. "People are more reluctant to throw down for a big bottle, but they're still buying really good glasses," says Louis Moskow at 315 Restaurant in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

When diners order wine by the glass, they're hoping to taste something new. That phenomenon has continued to gain momentum since the economic crash of 2008, when the concentration of well-known brands in poll responses gave way to less-expensive discoveries. This year, US wines dropped to 42.6 percent of the most popular wines in restaurants, reflecting the strength of the dollar at the close of 2015. Today, what's new is often something from the Old World.

Cabernet, the variety of choice in recent years, has given some ground to rich reds from Europe. Italy raced to 19.7 percent of the most popular wines in restaurants, its highest level in the history of the poll. And, as Ryan Fletter of Barolo Grill points out, Tuscan wines continue to dominate diners' choices. "A lot of Italian reds offer structure but not richness, and that's where Super Tuscans come in. If people usually drink American reds, that's where you can bridge the gap with something Italian."

Spanish wine also reached its highest level in the 27 years of the poll, doubling in one year to a 7.5 percent share of the most popular wines in restaurants. Arthur Hon at Sepia in Chicago told us, "I love Spain for the American palate. With riper fruit, more showy and supple, it's a good transition to drinking something with an Old World perspective." La Rioja Alta came in at an astonishing fourth place on the Restaurant Top 50—the list of the brands that received the most mentions from participating restaurants—the highest placement any Spanish wine has achieved. In fact, the top of the Top 50 is more diverse than ever, with some longtime residents holding their place as many newcomers arrive to these heights.

At the top of that list, the Top Ten Most Popular Restaurant Wine List Brands of 2015 are:
1. Cakebread Cellars
2. Jordan Vineyard & Winery
3. Merry Edwards
4. La Rioja Alta
5. Marchesi Antinori
6. Duckhorn Vineyards
7. Lucien Crochet
8. Caymus Vineyards
9. Justin
10. Silver Oak Wine Cellars

The 27th Annual Restaurant Poll Report appears in the April 2016 issue of Wine & Spirits. That issue also features the W&S NYC 50, the best places to eat and drink in New York City right now. Both the results of the Poll and the W&S NYC 50 will be fêted at Wine & Spirits' Eighth Annual Top of the List event in NYC on April 21.

The issue will be available at newsstands nationwide on March 15, 2016.
Copies of Wine & Spirits' April 2016 issue featuring the Poll results are available by mail for $9, including postage and handling. Members of the press interested in receiving a review copy of the issue or scheduling an interview with editor Joshua Greene may contact Samantha Groseth at (415) 770-2146 or sgroseth@wineandspiritsmagazine.com. e-Spirit's FirstSpirit CMS selected by L’Oréal Luxe to Improve Rich Content Management on E-Commerce Sites

Key decision drivers included ease of use, simplified content sharing capabilities, and Demandware e-commerce integration

Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 02, 2016

e-Spirit Inc., a leading supplier of content management solutions, today announced that L’Oréal Luxe, owner of the world's main leading luxury beauty brands, has selected the FirstSpirit CMS to improve rich content management within editorial sections on e-commerce sites managed by Demandware. Using FirstSpirit allows L’Oréal Luxe to easily create and share content across multiple country websites and to launch online Beauty Magazines that offer make-up tutorials, articles and styling tips, among other rich media content. The implementation is currently live in France, Canada, United States, China and Mexico and will be rolling out to Italy, Spain, Middle East in the coming months.

During initial discussions, L’Oréal Luxe highlighted the need for a Web content management system that could power the Beauty Magazines of its brands. These magazines feature beauty blog articles, make-up tutorials and how-to videos. One of the many features of FirstSpirit that L’Oréal Luxe appreciated was how easy it is for the internal content creators to post content throughout its global network of websites.

“Many of the features that FirstSpirit delivers, including simplified workflows and intuitive graphical user interfaces, helped us realize that FirstSpirit was the best solution for our needs,” said Jean-Claude Cohen, global digital platform director, L’Oréal Luxe. “But what really sold us on using FirstSpirit was its usability and seamless integration with Demandware.”

At L’Oréal Luxe, FirstSpirit allows content creators, such as non-technical editors and journalists, to easily publish news articles around the world without any technical assistance. Internal validation of content to ensure global consistency of L’Oréal Luxe’s brands is now fast and easy through the use of workflows tailored to the luxury brand’s requirements. L’Oréal Luxe also takes advantage of the tight integration with Demandware to create “smart” links between content created within the CMS and product catalogs maintained within the e-commerce system. By implementing a centralized system for creating and validating content, L’Oréal Luxe has essentially developed a corporate content cloud for storing and publishing content through multiple channels on a global basis.

“One of the most effective ways to extend a successful e-commerce site is through content marketing. This often represents a significant content management challenge that is beyond the scope of what’s possible within an e-commerce platform alone, particularly when you have multiple geographies and brands involved,” said Robert Bredlau, worldwide partner manager for e-Spirit. “As a Demandware partner, e-Spirit is ideally positioned to help brands take their e-commerce sites to the next level and are excited to be working with L’Oréal Luxe on this effort.”

About e-Spirit
e-Spirit is a leader in enabling companies to unlock the value of digital content and transform the way they communicate with customers and employees. Using the FirstSpirit content management system, organizations can create a Corporate Content Cloud connecting all their people, systems and applications to the centralized, real-time data, assets and information necessary to publish content with total accuracy and relevancy across all channels and devices. Bail-In Regulation To Blame For “Bank Turmoil” In EU?

Bail-In Regulation To Blame For “Bank Turmoil” In EU? *Bail-In Regulation To Blame For “Bank Turmoil” In EU?*

The Financial Times recently looked at how the new bail-in resolutions in the EU, U.S. and most of the western world and asked whether they may be leading to "bank turmoil" and increased concerns about banks and the banking sector in the EU. As is typically the case with coverage of the bail-in regime, the important article was little noticed.

Despite this lack of coverage, we believe bail-ins remain one of the greatest financial risks to investors, savers and indeed companies today. Yet they remain the most poorly covered financial risk and remain largely ignored by financial advisers, brokers and not surprisingly banks.

*
Bail-Ins - Key Considerations*Indeed, media internationally has ignored this growing and substantial financial risk and the risk that it poses to the deposits of savers, investors and companies and indeed to our respective economies. In a world already beset with huge deflationary pressures, bail-ins and confiscating deposits from savers including the capital of companies would be extremely deflationary and would likely contribute to serious recessions and potentially another global depression.

This is something we warned of when we first conducted our extensive research on the developing bail-in regimes in November 2013.

It is interesting and encouraging that the new government in Italy is aware of the risks of bail-ins and looks prepared to go against the new international deposit confiscation rules. Hopefully, it may at long last engender a real debate about the pros and significant cons of bail-ins and their risks and ramifications and contribute to people being prepared for bail-ins.

From the FT:

When Brussels last month trumpeted the launch of its new rule book on failing banks, it could hardly have imagined the political backlash would come so swiftly, or that the regime could be blamed for so much market turmoil. At the time they were agreed in 2014, these so-called “bail-in” reforms secured unanimous backing from EU governments, which wanted to shift the burden of bank rescues away from taxpayers and on to investors and depositors. But the nascent regime is now under sustained attack from Italy for being ill-thought through, rushed and destabilising. Some analysts also cited it as one of several factors driving this week’s volatility in European bank stocks. A messy round of forced bondholder writedowns at Portugal’s Novo Banco last month heightened creditor jumpiness. With European bank shares facing another tempestuous day on Thursday, these issues will be on the agenda of eurozone finance ministers at their regular Brussels gathering.
