The best of both worlds - wine and food. Eight wineries with fabulous food from around the world have recently been recognized by Zagat.
Taverna Tagaris at Tagaris Winery in Richland was recently included in a list of "8 Wineries with Fabulous Food" on the Google-owned restaurant review website. The Southeastern Washington venue serves up fresh Northwest cuisine along with award winning white and red wines crafted in the true European tradition.
New York-based writer and Zagat blogger Linnea Covington reported that, "Nestled into the charming Tagaris Winery in Washington’s Columbia Valley, Taverna Tagaris offers imbibers the chance to sit down and pair their vinos with seasonal fare sourced from all over the valley. Chef Joshua Duquist has a whole menu of tapas, with options including patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo or sautéed shrimp in spice garlic butter, and Greek-style chicken skewers, as well as heartier entrees that focus on red meat and fresh fish."
"Another thing this young chef does is utilize select Tagaris wines in his cooking – for example, the cheeseburger comes with Cabernet-caramelized onions and the clams and chorizo plate has a white wine butter sauce. Each menu item suggests a wine to go with the food, and though some blends you may be unfamiliar with, like their Syrah-heavy Red Roan, Cabernet Sauvignon-focused Boar Doe and varietals like Cinsault and Counoise, the helpful staff will certainly fill you in."
Sondra Wilson, President of Travel Leaders/Tri-Cities, a nationally recognized award winning travel expert for 34 years, is quite impressed with the Zagat notoriety. "It is a huge achievement that Tagaris has been acknowledged as one of the 8 best winery restaurants in the world. Zagat is a world renowned authority on dining!"
"It comes as no surprise that Taverna Tagaris would receive recognition for the quality of their food from Zagat," stated Kris Watkins, CEO of the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau. "It confirms that the dining experience at Tagaris is truly world class, and puts the Tri-Cities on the map for food and wine connoisseurs! This is a significant endorsement for our region as a travel destination."
The Zagat list is comprised mainly of U.S.-based wineries. Only two international wineries made the cut – B.C.’s Mission Hill and Ferrari Winery in Trento, Italy. Two of the six U.S. wineries are located in Napa Valley, California. Covington includes Etoile restaurant at Domaine Chandon, which is located in Yountville and known for sparkling wines, and Round Pond Estate in Rutherford, which produces vinegars and olive oils in addition to wines, to her list. The remaining four winery restaurants include Palladio Restaurant in Barboursville Vineyards in Virginia, Red Newt Bistro at Red Newt Cellars Winery in New York, Terrace Restaurant at Mission Hill Winery in Penticton B.C., Canada, and the restaurant at King Estate Winery in Oregon. Grape grower Michael Taggares founded Tagaris Winery in 1987. The winery honors the proper Greek spelling of the family name whose members descended from the Royal Family of Greece and first began growing wine grapes in the 15th Century. Reported by PRWeb 2 hours ago.
