Lightwave Logic to Present at ECOC and PIC Conferences

0
0
Englewood, Colorado, Sept. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lightwave Logic, Inc. (OTCQB: LWLG), a leader in electro-optic polymer technology, today announced several presentations to be given in the next two weeks. Participation in these events demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing the dynamic photonic communications market with its hybrid integration technology that has the capability of 100Gbaud^1 data transmission with only 1-volt drive signal.

ECOC, held this year from September 24 to 26, 2018 in Rome, Italy at the Fiera Roma Exhibition Center is one of the most prestigious and long-standing technical conferences and tradeshow events in this field.  This forum combines the latest progress reports from the world’s top research laboratories, commercial product demonstrations from major vendors and application requirements from giant service providers.

Lightwave Logic CEO Michael Lebby will speak on Tuesday September 25 in the Market Focus session of the commercial exhibition on “Pushing the performance of 50Gbps NRZ polymer modulators towards 100Gbps NRZ in a PIC platform to access 400 and 800Gbps data rates”.

The talk will discuss Mach-Zehnder measurements which show design capability to achieve fully standardized 400Gbps data communications using a polymer photonics integrated circuit P^2IC™ technology platform.  The talk will further discuss how the technology platform will scale both in higher-speed performance as well as in lower cost to extend the optical roadmap to 800Gbps.

He will follow up on Wednesday September 26 with a technical presentation at the International Symposium on Hybrid PICs, co-located with ECOC, entitled “Polymer PICs: technology and prospects”.   This talk will focus on the fundamental technology that allows electro-optic polymers to achieve the target of 100 Gbaud with power-saving low voltage modulation. Polymers are intrinsically suited for a simple hybrid implementation that is synergistic with either Silicon or Indium Phosphide.

The following week, on October 2, VP of Marketing Karen Liu will present at the Photonic Integration Conference, an executive session held as part of Photonics Applications Week in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.  In “Scaling for speed: the impact of polymer PICs on optical roadmaps” she will discuss how intrinsically higher-speed devices such as polymer modulators can alleviate the need for complex tradeoffs and extend the current optical roadmaps.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                *Powered by Lightwave Logic*

AI gliders learn to fly using air currents, just like birds

AI gliders learn to fly using air currents, just like birds Birds don’t always flap their wings to fly; sometimes they soar by taking advantage of rising columns of warm air known as thermals. With large wingspans, they can stay aloft for hours while expending minimal energy. Exactly how they do it — navigating tiny changes in unpredictable air currents — isn’t well-known. But scientists are now using artificial intelligence to learn their tricks, and hopefully, they can teach our aircraft to do the same.

As described in a paper published this week in the journal Nature, researchers from universities in the US and Italy used machine learning to train an algorithm to control a glider to navigate thermals. It’s not the first time artificial intelligence has been used for this task (Microsoft... Reported by The Verge 2 hours ago.

The New York Film Academy (NYFA) Community had a lot to celebrate while watching the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards last Monday, September 17, 2018.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 21, 2018

The New York Film Academy (NYFA) Community had a lot to celebrate while watching the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards last Monday, September 17. One of the big winners of the night was HBO’s new comedy, Barry, starring Bill Hader, a NYFA workshop alum, and Henry Winkler, who both received acting Emmys. Henry Winkler was a guest speaker at our Los Angeles campus (you can listen to his guest speaker event on the NYFA Podcast, The Backlot).

Other members of the NYFA community involved with this year’s Emmy Awards include Emmy-nominated alum Issa Rae (Insecure) and alum Francesco Panzieri, who has worked on Emmy-nominated Westworld.

Additionally, Netflix’s critical and commercial hit Stranger Things was up for several nominations. The nostalgic horror’s cast includes alum Matty Cardarople and NYFA Board Member and Master Class Lecturer Matthew Modine, and the show’s iconic opening titles were in part designed by Emmy-winner and NYFA alum Eric Demeusy.

Netflix made headlines when it broke HBO’s 17-year streak of most nominations, with 112 total, to HBO’s 108. This continues the cultural dominance in longform storytelling that started when COO Ted Sarandos, who spoke with NYFA students earlier this year, shepherded Netflix into the future of original content.

The New York Film Academy congratulates all Emmy nominees and winners, including our Alumni and community for their success this year!

Tessa Thompson Heads to ‘Avengers 4’ Set in Atlanta With Chris Hemsworth

Tessa Thompson Heads to ‘Avengers 4’ Set in Atlanta With Chris Hemsworth Perhaps the most notable superhero absence in “Avengers: Infinity War,” after actual Avengers member Hawkeye, was that of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), who was one of the leads in “Thor: Ragnarok.” “Ragnarok,” notably, ended right before “Infinity War” began, so it was kind of a big deal that she wasn’t even mentioned.

Valkyrie isn’t dead, of course — that much was confirmed by the Russo brothers and “Infinity War” screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on the “Infinity War” audio commentary. Since Thanos only killed half of the Asgardians in his ambush, that must mean that either she’s with the half that survived or she left before Thanos’ ship ambushed them.

Whatever the explanation, there is now reason to believe that Valkyrie is going to show up in “Avengers 4.” While her appearance in the film has not been confirmed officially and likely won’t be for a while, at least, thanks to a trio of Instagram stories we can get our hopes up, at least.

The first is Chris Hemsworth’s story. He’s been in London filming the new “Men in Black” movie, and he said yesterday on his story that he was heading to Atlanta for an “Avengers 4” shoot. Hemsworth said: “Finished the London portion of ‘Men in Black.’ We go to Morocco, a little bit of Italy, a little bit of Paree. But first, we’re going to Atlanta for some ‘Avengers’ additional photography.”

The next portion of Hemsworth’s IG story, posted an hour later, shows him in front of a private jet with stuntman Bobby Holland Hanton, who is Hemsworth’s stunt double on “Men in Black” and both “Infinity War” and “Avengers 4.”

Then, on Tessa Thompson’s IG story, we see another video in front of the same private jet, with the caption “BYE LONDON.” Hemsworth appears in the video, as does Thompson herself. Thompson, of course, is also starring in “Men in Black” with Hemsworth.

And, just in case you’re thinking this is all some kind of elaborate misdirection, Bobby Holland Hanton’s IG story actually shows Hemsworth and Thompson getting off the plane in Atlanta hours later.

Does this confirm that Valkyrie is going to be in “Avengers 4”? Absolutely not. She might just be tagging along with Hemsworth to chill out between “Men in Black” shoots, or could just want to go to Atlanta for any number of other reasons. All we know for sure is that Hemsworth and his stunt double took a private jet to Atlanta for “Avengers 4” reshoots, and that Thompson also rode to Atlanta on that same private jet.

However, this is not the first time Thompson has been linked to an “Avengers” set. Back in early 2017, Marvel was shooting something at Durham Cathedral in Durham, England. Hemsworth, Thompson and Mark Ruffalo were all spotted there, and it’s thus far unclear if what they shot was unused footage for “Infinity War” or something that we’ll see in “Avengers 4.”

Around the same time, the Russo brothers posted a photo of Joe Russo in the cathedral on Instagram (since scrubbed), and there were previous reports that “Infinity War” would be shooting there. So it’s not likely that they were doing additional shooting for “Thor: Ragnarok.”

Whatever is going on, we can’t help but get our hopes up that Valkyrie will have a key role to play in “Avengers 4.” But, given the level of secrecy that Marvel was able to maintain with the completely mad ending to “Infinity War” before it came out, we’re probably not going to find out for sure until we actually park our butts in movie theater seats to watch the thing next April.
